What’s included in the “Arcana Unleashed” D&D sourcebook?

In a recent blog post, Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that the book will include the following:

These eight new arcane subclasses will include the Vestige Patron Warlock, Warrior of the Mystic Arts Monk, Arcane Archer Fighter, Arcana Domain Cleric and four Wizard subclases for the Conjurer, Enchanter, Necromancer and Transmuter.

Notably, these subclasses first appeared in July 2025 Unearthed Arcana playtest (and later updated again for September 2025). Of them only the Vestige Patron Warlock and Warrior of the Mystic Arts Monk are new, with the Arcane Archer previously appearing in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, the Arcana Domain Cleric appearing in the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide, and the four Wizard subcblasses all appearing in the 2014 Player’s Handbook.

The book will include nine new factions, each with its own leadership, renown rewards, bastion facilities, member benefits, and rivalries. These includes options like the Conjuration-focused Horizon Weavers, the Enchantment-focused Bejeweled Conclave, the Necromancy-focused Covenant of the Grave and the the shadowy Ninth Quil

The book also adds 10 backgrounds, most of which are tied to a faction. In addition it includes 20 feats spanning the Origin, Fighting Style, General and Epic Boon categories – all of which are ties to the arcane.

Arcana Unleashed will feature over 45 magic items, including new evolving magic items, which are powerful relics that include unlockable features as you character advances in level.

The book will include 33 new and revised spells. Notably, more than half of these are Level 5 or above and include options like Wail of the Banshee, Iron Body and Spirit Lantern.

The book will feature 19 monster stat blocks, which all tie into magic. This includes everything from Fac Archmages specializing in every school of magic, spell-warped Darkenbeasts and even Living Spells.

The adventure is entitled “Tomb of the Shadow Serpents” and is designed for Level 1 characters. It features the iconic evil mage Venger (who first appeared in the 1980s D&D Saturday morning cartoon) and involves a dangerous crypt.

When will Arcana Unleashed be released?

Arcana Unleashed will be available on September 15th, 2026. As with previous D&D books, if you pre-order from D&D Beyond and local game stores who has opted into the early release program, you’ll be able to receive digital and physical copies several weeks earlier.

The book will also be a major part of the new D&D Seasons, which is a concept that connects new books and community events around a specific theme. In the case of the Arcana Unleashed it will be part of the“Season of Magic” which runs from July to September 2026 and will include tie-in products and organized play events tied to high magic.

Is there an alternate cover of Arcana Unleashed?

Yes, as with other recent D&D books, there is alternate cover of Arcana Unleashed. The price is exactly the same as the regular version and it will be available online and at local game stores.

The alternate cover is illustrated by Polish artist Couple of Kooks who has contribute art to numerous other D&D products, including interior work featured in the 2024 Player’s Handbook and 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide. He also contributed the alternate cover to the 2024 Book of Many Things supplement.

What other tie-in products will be released?

In addition to the main sourcebook, Wizards of the Coast will also be releasing a new tie-in adventure expansion entitled Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall, which involves a war taking place between the Red Wizards in the nation of Thay in the Forgotten Realms. A standalone Arcana Unleashed Map Pack will also be be made available.

The book is also a major part of D&D Seasons, which are specific periods of time in which new books, accessories and organized play events will be all focused around a single theme. The “Season of Magic” runs from July to September 2026. We may also see tie-ins for the recently restarted D&D Encounters program, which is designed to bring more players into local game stores.

Final Thoughts

Magic is, of course, a major part of Dungeons & Dragons, yet we haven’t really seen a dedicated sourcebook like Arcana Unleashed in the modern 5E era. It’s also interesting to see a supplement that more heavily geared towards players than Dungeon Masters, presenting both new and updated subclasses. Whether this content will cast a spell over D&D fans, however, remains to be seen.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on Arcana Unleashed in the weeks ahead and will update this page with new information as it’s available. In the meantime, you can pre-order it now on D&D Beyond and on Amazon.
