New Baldur’s Gate 3 Comic Books Coming from Dark Horse

Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to be the game that keeps on giving, with Dark Horse teasing a new comic series based on Larian Studios best-selling RPG. The series will at least feature Astarion and Karlach, and full details will be revealed on Friday, October 9 at New York Comic Con.

This marks yet another major D&D comic book to be released by Dark Horse, who picked up the rights to the franchise from Wizards of the Coast back in 2024 from IDW. It also marks the continued cross-pollination of BG3 across other forms of media, including a recently released Astarion novel, an upcoming HBO live-action series, an official coloring book and even a cookbook.

What is the new Dark Horse D&D comic book series about?

So far details are fairly light on what the comics will be about. Dark Horse did release several social media posts. The first was an image of Astarion illustrated by award-winning French artist and graphic designer Gerald Parel.

The second was an image of Karlach by Eisner Award-winning writer and artist Becky Cloonan, who is best known for her work on Wonder Woman, Gotham Academy, Conan the Barbarian, Southern Cross, The Mire and Somna.

What other Dark Horse D&D comics are in the works?

Dark Horse has definitely been ramping up its D&D comic book line over the past few years and has released a number of series, including:

  • The Fallbacks: The initial miniseries that launched Dark Horse’s D&D license, with a series based on the popular Forgotten Realms Fallbacks novels by author Jaleigh Johnson.
  • Total Party Killers: A comedic take on traditional dungeon crawls that flips the script by following a group of misfit monsters who are tasked with defending their dungeon from invading adventuring parties.
  • Ravenloft: A four-issue gothic horror miniseries set in the Domains of Dread that follows the adventures of mad scientist Viktra Mordenheim.
  • Ongoing D&D Series: Follows the exploits of the legendary wizard Mordenkainen as he travels to the Forgotten Realms to stop an ancient draconic enemy.

Final thoughts

Baldur’s Gate 3 has become one of the biggest and most beloved video games of the past few years, so it’s not surprising that it continues to appear in other media. Whether this new series will live up to fan expectations, however, remains to be seen.
