New D&D Spell Cards Coming for the Season of Magic

Playing as a magic user in Dungeons & Dragons can be challenging, with players often having to flip through multiple pages to find the perfect spell. Which is why it’s not surprising that over the years Wizards of the Coast has released numerous sets of official D&D spell cards. The goal is for players to be able to quickly and easily reference all the info they need at the table without having to consult any hefty tomes or dig through online resources.

Now, players will be able to stack the deck with spells using the latest D&D 5.5E rules, with Wizards of the Coast releasing three new spell card sets. An official tie-in to the upcoming D&D Season of Magic, the cards are based on spells featured in the 2024 Player’s Handbook, and cover level 0 cantrips all the way to more powerful level 5 spells.

The physical sets will be available later this August, but you can pre-order them now from your local game store, D&D Beyond and Amazon. Below, we shuffle up all the details on what’s included.

What are the new D&D 5.5E spell cards?

The 2026 D&D Spell Cards consist of three sets which are sold separately. All of the cards are fully illustrated and contain complete details on specific spells taken from the 2024 PHB. They are as follows:

How much are the new D&D 5.5E spell cards?

Each physical set of spell cards retails for $19.99 USD (not including shipping and handling), which is actually surprisingly affordable (previous sets released in 2014 had a similar price point).

When will the new D&D spell cards be released?

All three sets of D&D 5.5E spell cards will be released on August 18th, 2026, at which point they’ll be available at local game stores and online retailers. Players who pre-order now from stores that are part of Wizards’ early access program, however, will be able to get their hands on the cards on August 4th, 2026.

Notably, the release is designed to coincide with the Season of Magic, which runs from July to September 2026 and will include organized play events and other tie-in products related to the new Arcana Unleashed supplement and Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall adventure.

Three packs of official D&D spell cards: one for Clerics, one for Druids and for Arcana classes.

What other D&D spell cards have been released in the past?

D&D spell cards have actually been around since the earliest days of the game, mostly as fan-made accessories. In the D&D fifth edition era, however, we’ve seen a number of official and unofficial decks. Past releases from Wizards of the Coast include:

Notably all of these sets are for the 2014 D&D 5E ruleset.

Three packs of official D&D spell cards: one for Rangers, one for Martial classes and one containing spells from Xanathar's Guide to Everything.

Final thoughts

While looking up spells has become less of an issue in recent years thanks to D&D Beyond (and even a simple Google search), there’s definitely still something appealing about having physical cards in your hands that you can quickly reference at the table.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on these new sets in the days ahead and will be doing a complete review closer to launch. In the meantime, you can pre-order them now from your local game store, D&D Beyond and Amazon.
