New D&D Magic Item Cards Put the Hoard in Your Hands

As a Dungeon Master, handing out hard-earned loot is one of the most satisfying parts of running a game. Yet all too often sessions can grind to a halt when players start asking questions like how much water actually comes out of A Decanter of Endless Water or whether an Immovable Rod really is immovable.
The good news is that Wizards of the Coast is officially rolling out two brand-new sets of D&D Magic Item Cards. Designed to give players instant access to all the details on newly acquired treasure, the cards are all taken from the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide and feature the updated D&D 5.5E rules. It’s worth noting, however, that the cards only cover Common, Uncommon, Rare and Very Rare magic items, so we’ll have to see if WotC deals out any future decks containing Legendary items and Artifacts.
In the meantime, the physical sets will be available later this August, but you can pre-order them now from your local game store, D&D Beyond and Amazon. Below, we attune to all the details.

What are the new D&D 5.5E Magic Item Cards?
The new magic item cards consist of two sets, each of which is sold separately. All of the cards contain art and details taken from the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide. They are as follows:

Magic Items: Common and Uncommon
Designed for early-to-mid-game progression, the cards feature a variety of more well-known and relatively low-powered items.
The deck includes 183 cards in total:
- 59 common magic item cards
- 117 uncommon magic item cards
- 6 customizable cards
- 1 instruction card

Magic Items: Rare and Very Rare
Built for higher-level adventurers, this deck includes a number of more powerful items, some of which require attunement to properly use.
This deck includes 225 cards in total:
- 124 rare magic item cards
- 95 very rare magic item cards
- 1 stat block card
- 4 customizable cards
- 1 instruction card
How much are the new D&D 5.5E Magic Item Cards?
Each deck retails for $24.99 USD (not including shipping and handling), which may feel a little on the pricey side, but is also on par for similar magic item card sets.
When will the new D&D Magic Item Cards be released?
Both decks will be released on August 18th, 2026, at which point they’ll be available at local game stores and online retailers. If you pre-order now from a game store that’s opted into Wizards’ early access program, however, you’ll be able to get them earlier on August 4th, 2026.

What other D&D Magic Item Cards have been released in the past?
D&D magic item cards have been around for decades, mostly as fan-made accessories, but also in a number of third-party products. Over the years, however, Wizards of the Coast has released a few official products for D&D 5E, including:

Final thoughts
Wizards of the Coast is definitely going all in on physical decks and is also releasing D&D spell cards and D&D monster cards. They’re a great idea in theory, but it remains to be seen if fans who have been using digital tools like D&D Beyond will make the shift. It’s also a bit disappointing that the sets don’t include higher-level magic items, but hopefully, we’ll see new expansions later down the line.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on these decks in the days ahead and will do a complete review closer to launch. In the meantime, you can pre-order the new D&D magic item card sets now from your local game store, D&D Beyond and Amazon.
