The Red Wizards of Thay have long been one of the most iconic villains in Dungeons & Dragons, having appeared in countless supplements, novels and video games, even going so far as to make a major appearance in the Honor Among Thieves film. They’ll also be the main attraction in an upcoming D&D campaign book entitled Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall.
The new adventure is designed for Level 11 to 20 characters and is a tie-in to the new Arcana Unleashed supplement, with the players thrust into a brutal magical war involving the dreaded Red Wizards. The book will also include a gazetteer covering the politics and society of Thay, along with new magic items, monsters and maps. It will be coming out later in September, but you can pre-order it now from local game stores, D&D Beyond and Amazon.
So will Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall be a fitting tribute to D&D’s most maniacal mages? Below, we take a look at all the latest details.

What is the “Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall” about?
Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall is a 128-page book that offers a complete level 11–20 campaign broken out into 5 separate chapters. It also contains:
- Thay Gazetteer: This is a 24-page guide which provides DM’s with a high-level overview of Thay, including its provinces, Zulkirs, politics, society and intrigue surrounding the infamous Red Wizards.
- 14 magical items: These are all found throughout the adventure and range in rarity and use.
- 6 new monsters: All are high CR stat blocks (reflecting the high-level nature of the campaign) and the book also includes a stat block for Szass Tam, along with DM advice on how to play him
- 20+ full maps, which are included in the print materials and can be used in the digital version with the D&D Beyond Maps VTT.
- DM Advice: This bonus section includes brief information on how to run a magical spy thriller and adventures in Thay.

Notably, a Red Wizards of Thay adventure was first announced way back in March 2023 at D&D Direct, but was never fully released. At the time, Wizards of the Coast noted: “As other fan-favorite villains take center stage, more plots and connections will emerge over the next five years. The Red Wizards of Thay, who are featured as villains in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will appear in an adventure in 2025.”
It’s not clear if Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall is this project finally coming to fruition over three years later or something completely different that isn’t related at all or has been dramatically altered.

When is “Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall” coming out?
Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall will be released in September 15th, 2026, at which point it will be available online and at physical retailers. Notably, if you pre-order from D&D Beyond and local game stores who have opted into the early release program, you’ll be able to receive digital and physical copies several weeks earlier.
The book will also be a key part of the new D&D Seasons initiative, which connects new books and community events around a specific theme. In particular, Deadfall will be part of the Season of Magic, which runs from July to September 2026 and will be supported by other products and organized play events.

How much is “Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall”?
The physical hardcover book retails for $29.99 USD (not including shipping and handling). The D&D Beyond digital version retails for $19.99 USD. You can also purchase a digital + physical bundle that will retail for $49.99 USD (although it is currently discounted to $39.99 USD for pre-orders).
You can also purchase the Arcana Unleashed: Ultimate Bundle which retails for $129.99 USD and includes both digital and physical version of Deadfall as well as the core Arcana Unleashed supplement.

Is there an alternate cover of Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall?
Yes, there is alternate cover of Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall. The price is exactly the same as the regular version and it will be available online and at local game stores.
Notably, the alternate cover is illustrated by Polish artist Couple of Kooks who has contributed art to numerous other D&D products, including interior work featured in the 2024 Player’s Handbook and 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide. He also contributed the alternate cover to the 2024 Book of Many Things supplement.

What other tie-in products are there?
A standalone Arcana Unleashed Map Pack tie-in is also available that includes fold out maps that be used for gridded combat at the table. The book will also be part of Season 2 of the upcoming Dungeon Masters actual play series and we’ll likely see supplemental material released as that show begins to air.
It’s possible we may also see tie-ins from WizKids (who typically releases tie-in miniatures) and Beadle & Grimm’s (who has released box set versions of major campaigns).

Final Thoughts
It’s interesting to see Wizards of the Coast offering up another high level campaign after the recent launch of Vecna: Eve of Ruin (which was designed for Level 10 to 20 characters, but didn’t exactly land well with fans). It’s worth noting, however, that the Red Wizards are a group that has been thoroughly explored before in other D&D materials, so we’ll have to wait and see if Szass Tam has any new tricks up his sleeve.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall in the weeks ahead and will be doing a complete review closer to launch. In the meantime, you can pre-order the book now from local game stores, D&D Beyond and Amazon.
