UK’s Royal Mail Rolls out New Commemorative DnD Stamps

Dungeons & Dragons has appeared in countless forms over the years, with the legendary RPG brand plastered onto toys, lunch boxes, t-shirts, posters, calendars, mugs, shoes and even Hawaiian shirts.

Now, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the game, DnD will also be appearing in the most unlikely of places: the UK’s Royal Mail postal service. These new collectible stamps come in a set of eight, but are also available in a variety of print and collectible formats that showcase new DnD artwork from iconic fantasy illustrator Wayne Reynolds.

So just what’s included in these new DnD stamps and how can you get your hands on them? Below, we push the envelope and lick into all the details.

What’s included in the new Royal Mail DnD stamps?

The upcoming Royal Mail stamps are part of a new series of products that feature DnD artwork from popular fantasy illustrator Wayne Reynolds (who sharp-eyed fans will also recognize for his contribution to covers of various books and supplements for the Pathfinder RPG).

The base stamps come as a set of eight, but the designs are also available as framed portraits, envelopes, commemorative coins, metal ingots and even a collector’s book shaped like a Mimic. The Royal Mail has also indicated that a “special surprise” will be revealed if you hold the stamps under an ultraviolet light.

In an interview on the Royal Mail website, artist Wayne Reynolds notes that all but three of the images are taken from existing pieces of DnD artwork (the Displacer Beast comes from the 2010 Deluxe DM’s Screen, the Red Dragon from the cover of the 4th edition Dungeon Master’s Guide and the Beholder has appeared in several other DnD products over the years). The Gelatinous Cube, Mimic, Mind Flayer, Owlbear and Vecna, however, are all original designs from Reynolds that were commissioned specifically for the Royal Mail DnD stamp project in collaboration with Wizards of the Coast.

When are the new Royal Mail DnD stamps coming out?

The new DnD stamps will be released on July 25th, 2024 and you can order the set and the various other DnD collectibles directly from the Royal Mail website. If you’re outside the UK, you can still get them delivered, although it may be a little on the pricey side to get them shipped (you’ll also need to create an account with the Royal Mail first).

It’s worth noting that while these stamps are primarily designed for collectors, they can in fact be used as actual postage within Britain. Although wasting a Beholder on snail mail seems like a bit of travesty.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t the first time DnD has appeared in stamp form. In fact, the United States Postal Service is also releasing their own commemorative DnD stamps in 2024 (although there’s aren’t nearly as cool and don’t feature original artwork).

It’s also not the first time that the Royal Mail has collaborated with a geek-friendly brand like Dungeons & Dragons, with the company having created a set of limited edition Warhammer and X-Men stamps in recent years.

You can order your DnD stamps now from the Royal Mail website. Below is also a video from their official YouTube channel which offers a closer look at the new collectibles.

Cameron Nichols is a Senior Editor who lives in Boston, Massachusetts, and has been playing D&D since the early 90s, when he was introduced by his older brother and cut his teeth on AD&D 2nd Edition. Since then he’s played virtually every RPG he could get his nerdy little mitts on (including a weird Goth phase in the early 2000s when he rocked Vampire: The Masquerade pretty hard). His favorite D&D campaign setting is the Forgotten Realms and his favorite character to play was a Half-Orc Barbarian named Grug (who was unfortunately devoured by a gelatinous cube).
