New DnD LEGO Set: Red Dragons Tale (First Look)

For years, fans have been praying for an official DnD LEGO set. Now those prayers to the brick-based gods have been answered with an official set now unveiled on the LEGO website.

The new product is entitled Red Dragon’s Tale is actually created by a fan as part of the LEGO Ideas Contest, which was held back in 2022 and organized by both LEGO and wizards of the Coast to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of D&D.

The winning entry was designed by Lucas Bolt (aka BoltBuilds), an amateur LEGO creator and a nine-year veteran environmental artist for Guerilla Games; developer of the popular video game series Horizon Zero Dawn.

So what can we expect to find in this new blend of beholders and bricks? Below we break out all the details.

What’s in the New D&D LEGO Set?

Red Dragons Tale (which is officially listed as LEGO set 21348) is composed of 3,745 pieces and includes four unique play areas, with the ability to swap out doors and parts of the environment.

  • The Witches Tower: An old ruin that has a lab, armory, a waterwell and a trap door to deter unwanted visitors.
  • The Tavern: A place for adventurers to gather for ale and plan their next journey.
  • The Dungeon: A massive cavern located under the tower where monsters and treasures await.
  • The Crypt: A treasure-filled area where death and glory can be found.

The set also includes six new DnD LEGO mini figures, along with a red dragon, a beholder, an owl bear, a displacer beast and a gelatinous cube (the latter of which was teased on the official LEGO Twitter/X feed).

When will the new DnD LEGO Set be released?

The new Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragons Tale box set will be available on April 1st, 2024, from both the LEGO website and most major retailers.

Notably, demand is expected to be extremely high (as both DnD fans and LEGO collectors tend to be pretty rabid), but there shouldn’t be any issues with getting your hands on any copies, as LEGO has likely produced quite a few sets.

How much is the new DnD LEGO set?

The new DnD LEGO set will retail for $359.99 USD, which is definitely on the pricier side, but not unexpected given the size of Red Dragons Tale, the license and the number of pieces that come with the set.

If the set does sell out, you can likely expect to pay significantly more than that on eBay and the secondary market, where discontinued LEGO sets often sell for a small fortune.

Final Thoughts

The new DnD LEGO set looks amazing. And it’s even more awesome given that it was actually first created by a fan. While it will definitely set you back a few gold pieces, it’s safe to say that the prayers of both brickheads and DnD players have finally been answered.
