Dungeons & Dragons is returning to one of its oldest and most beloved settings, with a brand new campaign entitled Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen, which was just unveiled at Gen Con 2026.

As the name suggests, the adventure will be set in the world of Oerth, with players taking on the villainous Drelnza, a powerful vampire who also happens to be the daughter of the legendary wizard Tasha.

The book will be available in both physical hardcover and D&D Beyond digital format in the later half of 2027. Below, we take a closer look at everything we know so far.

What is Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen about?

Crown of the Witch Queen is a 160-page campaign adventure set in the world of Greyhawk. The primary antagonist is Drelnza, the vampire daughter of Iggwilv, the powerful witch-queen better known to modern players as Tasha (of the D&D supplement Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything and the spell Tasha’s Hideous Laughter). The characters’ levels and plot details have yet to be announced, but it’s been described as being a darker and more antagonist-driven campaign than a typical D&D release.

During a press conference held prior to Gen Con 2026, Wizards of the Coast Product Architect Andy Chilton previewed several illustrations from the upcoming campaign book and noted that “visually we’re going for operatic, thrilling, archetypal, big, dramatic silhouettes on bold impactful shapes that feel like classic Greyhawk but reimagined and updated for today’s adventures.”

How much is Crown of the Witch Queen?

Wizards of the Coast has not yet confirmed pricing, but given the page count, the hardcover will likely retail for $29.99 USD with the D&D Beyond version going for $19.99 USD (which is the same pricing we saw for Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall).

When will Crown of the Witch Queen be released?

Wizards of the Coast said the book is targeting a release in the “back portion” of 2027. They also confirmed that Crown of the Witch Queen will be the anchor release for the upcoming Season of Sword & Sorcery; one of several new D&D Seasons planned for the coming year.

Will there be an alternate cover?

The Wizards of the Coast team has not yet confirmed if an alternate cover will be released, but it’s extremely likely given what we’ve seen from past D&D products.

We’ll update this page with more details and images on the covers as soon as they’ve been confirmed.

What other tie-in products are available?

In addition to the primary core campaign book, Wizards of the Coast will also be releasing:

  • Crown of the Witch Queen Map Pack: Available in print and as a digital product on D&D Beyond, it will feature a variety of maps taken from the campaign book.
  • Crown of the Witch Queen DM screen: This will feature original art along with useful references and tables for the world of Greyhawk.

Notably, we saw two similar map pack and DM screen products released for Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.

Who is Drelzna in D&D lore?

Drelnza (also sometimes spelled as Drelzna) was born in the world of Oerth sometime between 481 and 491 CY. She is the daughter of the powerful witch Iggwilv (better known as Tasha) and is the half-sister of the dark wizard turned demigod, Iuz. In D&D lore, she was later transformed into a powerful and bloodthirsty vampire. She is described as having black hair and ruby-red lips and is often seen wearing golden full plate armor and wielding a magical sword known as Heretic.

In the real world, Drelnza first appeared in the 1982 adventure module S4: The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. She’s been since periodically mentioned in other official D&D publications, including Dragon Magazine and the 1985 adventure Isle of the Ape.

Final Thoughts

After a decade of being largely overlooked by Wizards of the Coast, Greyhawk has been back in the spotlight in recent years, including being prominently featured in the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide and the focus of the Legends of Greyhawk organized play program.

More recently, the world of Oerth is also front and center in Luke Gygax’s new supplement Melf’s Guide to Greyhawk, as well as being a primary setting for the new D&D Icons program.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on Crown of the Witch Queen in the days ahead and will update this page with new information as it’s made available.
