If you aren’t familiar with it, Exploring Eberron is a third-party D&D sourcebook written by Eberron creator Keith Baker and first published on DMsGuild in 2020. It’s since become one of the the platform’s most popular titles and one of the few Adamantine best-sellers (the highest ranking tier on DMsGuild).
More recently, in January 2026, the book was officially updated to the 2024 D&D rules and brought onto the official D&D Beyond platform as a new product entitled Exploring Eberron 5.5E. Now, this updated version is also available in PDF format on DMsGuild.
So is this new take on Eberron worth exploring? Below, we take a closer look at all the details.

What’s included in Exploring Eberron 5.5E?
Exploring Eberron 5.5E is a 259-page supplement written by Keith Baker, with layout and design from Visionary Productions, a third-party company that has helped develop a number of other high-profile DMsGuild releases.
For the most part the book is a reprint of the 2020 version of Exploring Eberron, with the the layout and art largely remaining the same (with the exception of a new cover). The majority of changes are text-based and designed to bring the content in line with the new D&D 5.5E mechanics, particularly in relation to subclasses and species (both of which have changed significantly).
The book is also meant to be a companion piece to the 2019 book Eberron: Rising from the Last War (which was officially published by Wizards of the Coast and which Baker co-wrote) as well as the 2025 Eberron: Forge of the Artificer (for which Baker served as a consultant). The latter product officially brings the Artificer class and subclasses into the D&D 5.5E rules.

The book contains the following chapters:
Chapter 1: Discovering Eberron: This chapter offers a high-level view of the lore and history of the continent of Khorvaire.
Chapter 2: Races of Eberron: This looks at the settings unique species, including Changelings, Kalashtar, Shifters, Warforged and the elves of Aerenal. This section has been updated from the 2020 version, relfecting that in the D&D 2024 rules there are no half-elves and there are no longer racial ability modifiers.
Chapter 3: Faiths of Eberron: This chapter explores the major gods and religious organizations in the setting.
Chapter 4: Uncharted Domains: This chapter expands beyond the Five Nations (which are covered in-depth in previous materials) and looks at rarely explored regions such as Droaam, the Mror Holds, goblinoid civilizations and the aquatic civilizations that exist under the Thunder Sea.

Chapter 5: Planes of Existence: This looks at Eberron’s cosmology, focusing on how it interacts with the Material Plane through manifest zones and planar cycles.
Chapter 6: Character Options: This chapter includes new backgrounds, species variants, feats and subclasses. It also includes new options for Dragonmarks and Artificers. Notably this draws on recent content from Forge of the Artificer, in terms of the new Artificer class/subclasses and Dragonmarks (which are no longer specific only to certain species).
Chapter 7: Treasures: The content here lists a variety of magic items, equipment and treasure (which is largely unchanged from the 2020 version).
Chapter 8: Friends and Foes: This final chapter presents stat blocks for a variety of new monsters. These have been tweaked to take into consideration the design of the new D&D 2024 monster stat block.

How much is Exploring Eberron 5.5E on DMsGuild?
The premium hardcover retails for $69.95 USD, while the standard hardcover retails for $57.95 USD (notably both are 8.5 x 11-inches and full color, with the premium version using a better, studier printing process).
The PDF retails for $29.95 USD. You can also snag a premium physical + PDF bundle for $99.99 USD or a standard physical + PDF bundle for $87.99 USD. All versions of the book are fulfilled by DMsGuild.
Notably, the pricing is the same as the 2020 version, and it’s worth noting that if you did purchase that version you are not automatically entitled to the new 5.5E version. It’s also worth noting that the D&D Beyond version also retails for $29.99 USD.

Is Exploring Eberron 5.5E worth picking?
If you’re a fan of Keith Baker’s work and the world of Eberron, and don’t already own the 2020 version of Exploring Eberron, then it’s definitely worth grabbing what’s arguably one of the best third-party D&D supplements in recent years.
If, on the other hand, you already have a copy of the book, it’s probably not worth snagging, as in theory the 2020 version of the book can be updated to D&D 5.5E with a little bit of work on the part of a DM.

Final Thoughts
While Exploring Eberron 5.5E isn’t technically a new product, it is likely the last time we’ll see any kind of Eberron book from Keith Baker. That’s because of his previously announced plans to step away from the setting (which is owned entirely by Wizards of the Coast), following the release of Frontiers of Eberron: Quickstone.
Baker has also since gone on to join the Daggerheart team to work on a new campaign setting with his wife Jenn Ellis, which means this D&D 5.5E update may be the last chance to see a new product from the setting’s original creator.
