New Dragonlance World Book Announced for D&D Icons Line

This past summer at Gen Con, Wizards of the Coast officially revealed D&D Icons, a new publishing line that would be overseen by actor and producer Joe Manganiello and feature new game books from classic designers and authors. During that time it was revealed that one of the projects in development was a new Dragonlance supplement that would be written by original creators Tracy Hickman and Margaret Wise.
We now have new information on what exactly that book will be, with Manganiello recently posting an Instagram in front of a white board with details on what appears to be a Dragonlance World Book. Tracy Hickman also later shared a several several images and a video on Facebook which also included members of the official Dungeons & Dragons design team.
Below, we break out everything we know so far about the new project.
What will the new Dragonlance World Book be about?
In his Facebook post, Tracy Hickman writes: “Since Monday, Margaret Weis, Joe Manganiello and I have been meeting with Dan Ayoub and the incredible D&D team outlining the world book for Dragonlance as well as future product beginning in 2029. The future is going to be filled with epic adventure!”
The whiteboard notes include the following:
- 1 x map pack
- 1 x book
- Everything you need to be drawn in without making an encyclopedia
- This is the game the dm plays @ the start of campaign and again @ the start of each season
- World book: Krynn
- War of lance FDNs (all campaigns start here, Ariakas has sent dragonlords). Narrative examples follow story (because PC’s exist MC’s do not – at least not the same, and but there are multiple starting locations).
- Sandbox of Ansalon – who’s who who’s where what’s what
- Dragons: riding, combat, corruption, hierarchy, temperaments, individuality (includes sub-notes: history, ecology, complex
- Epic-scale war / scope (seeing Sauron’s forces in front of Minas Tirith) – army-view (objective-based), soldier-view (be part of it; need to feel it – Gettysburg / Band of Brothers), desperate, hold out (not beat them all), personal
- Beastiary: unique to Krynn (Ansalon)
- Class/race: unique to krynn (Ansalon), titles
- Wizards / alignment / tests of high sorcery / renegades
- Knights / other roles
- Clerics: Cosmology: fdn of universe / gods & followers
- Magic items
- Adventure / canon moments / lego bricks
- Appendix: history of the world
- Map / branching paths
- River of time needs to be simple, repeatable, engaging, and easy to execute and track

This suggests the new World Book: Krynn will follow a similar approach to other recent D&D products in that it will have both a supplement and a map pack, and contain a mix of both character options and DM materials.
When will the new Dragonlance World Book be released?
An exact launch date has not yet been confirmed by Manganiello, Hickman, Weis or Wizards of the Coast, and it is not currently on the current D&D roadmap which lists all of the books available for the remainder of 2026 and first half of 2027.
It is possible that we may see it in the latter half of 2027 or early 2028, after the release of the new D&D Star Wars crossover, although this is purely speculation.
Final thoughts
Dragonlance has seen a definite resurgence in the past few years, following the 2022 Shadow of the Dragon Queen campaign for D&D 5E, a new Dragonlance trilogy from Hickman and Weis published from 2023 to 2025, and more recently the War Wizards prequel novel which was published in August 2026. If these social media posts are any indication, however, it looks like we’ll be seeing a whole lot more Krynn in the next few years.
