At this year’s Gen Con it was revealed that two of gaming’s biggest brands were crossing over, with Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard teaming up on a new D&D: World of Warcraft expansion. Scheduled for release later this fall, the primary focus is on a new D&D sourcebook featuring species, subclasses and spells taken from the world of Azeroth.
As part of the release, Wizards of the Coast is releasing both an alternate cover and a collector’s edition slipcase set. Both will be released on November 17th, 2026, but you can pre-order them both now from your local game store, D&D Beyond and Amazon.
Below, we take a closer look at these alternate versions of Azeroth.

What is the alternate cover for the D&D World of Warcraft supplement?
The alternate cover (referred to by Wizards of the Coast as the “hobby” cover) is a version that will be available exclusively from local game stores. The price is $59.99 USD, which is an identical MSRP to the standard cover variant.
The front and back art on the cover is by longtime Blizzard illustrator Forrest Imel. Notably, it depicts a group of Murlocs, which are an iconic monster species that have been heavily featured in the World of Warcraft MMORPG over the years.

What is the D&D World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition?
In addition to both the standard and alternate hobby cover variants, you can also purchase a limited-edition D&D: World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition. It comes in a slipcase with foil and sculpted cover treatments featuring the logo for the Alliance and the Horde (you can choose the logo you prefer so it displays in the circular slipcase window).
This version is available from D&D Beyond, local game stores and select online retailers. It retails for $99.99 USD (not including shipping and handling). On D&D Beyond you can also pick up the Ultimate Bundle for $144.99 USD, which includes the slipcase along with a physical map pack, DM screen and other digital exclusives.

Final Thoughts
The new World of Warcraft supplement is the first entry in the new D&D Universes Beyond line and Wizards of the Coast is going all in, both with its alternate cover and slipcase set, as well as new products including a DM screen, Map Pack and Miniatures.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the new D&D WoW supplement and will be doing a complete review closer to launch. In the meantime, you can pre-order the book now from your local game store, D&D Beyond and Amazon.
