New D&D Beyond Stickers Let You Dress Up Your Digital Dungeon

The virtual dungeons of D&D Beyond are about to get a little more colorful (and tastefully furnished) thanks to a brand new product. The Tom Cartos: Essentials Stickers Bundle features over over 1,200 drag-and-drop digital assets for use with the Maps VTT, covering everything from weapons and vehicles, to traps and treasure chests. Notably, the set is based on four existing digital sticker packs, each of which is associated with a specific environment, but the bundle is available for the first time now on D&D Beyond.

As the name suggests, all of the digital stickers have been designed by Tom Cartos, who is best known for his third-party TTRPG battlemaps and art assets. It marks yet another collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and external creators, while also continuing WotC’s larger promotion of the growing Maps VTT platform.

So are these stickers worth slapping on your players? Below, we peel back all the details.

What is the Tom Cartos: Essentials Stickers Bundle?

The bundle is a collection for D&D Beyond that contains almost 1,300 digital “stickers” hand-drawn by designer Tom Cartos. These range from dungeon dressings such as furniture and equipment to more complex objects like siege engines and sailing ship. The assets are specifically designed for drag-and-drop use with the D&D Beyond Maps VTT, and can be resized, rotated and quickly switched out, allowing DMs to create dynamic scenes, such lighting a town or fire springing a trap.

The bundle is organized into four themed packs (each of which is also sold separately on D&D Beyond):

  • Bandits & Brigands: This collection features watchtowers, walls, and palisades; chests, cages, and barrels; tents, beds, and furnishings; banners, pelts, and totems; and various weapons, armor and equipment.
  • Castles & Keeps: The library includes trebuchets, battering rams, and siege engines; crates, barrels, and pots; weapons, armor, and shields; regal beds, tables, and furnishings; and torture devices, cages and chains.
  • Tombs, Traps & Temples: The selection features traps, puzzles, and levers; tombs, crypts, and coffins; relics, statues, and shrines; treasure, statues, and chests; and ruined walls and pillars.
  • Transport & Travel: This pack offers sailboats, barges, and rafts; wagons, carts, and trailers; tents and camping gear; cannons, anchors, and cranes; plus shipwreck debris.

Who is Tom Cartos?

Tom Cartos is a professional cartographer and artist specializing in tabletop RPG battlemaps and digital assets (most of which are flexible enough to be used for just about any VTT and fantasy-themed TTRPG). Cartos actually comes from a background in architecture and set design, but over the past five years has become a prominent figure in the TTRPG community, primarily through social media and his Patreon. During that time he’s produced a library of more than 3,500 hand-drawn maps.

Cartos’ work is characterized by high detail and modularity, often providing “unfurnished” versions of maps that allow DMs to customize the layouts. He’s also developed a wide range of other TTRPG assets, including custom tokens and a collection of one-shot adventures for D&D 5E, all of which have been well received by the community. The fact that Cartos’ work has been selected for D&D Beyond speaks to just how widespread and influential he’s become.

How much is the Tom Cartos: Essentials Stickers Bundle ?

The bundle is currently sells on D&D Beyond for $24.99 USD. Notably, each pack sells separately on D&D Beyond for $6.99 USD, so getting the bundle works out to a savings of about 10% (or roughly $3 USD).

It’s worth noting, however, that the stickers are exclusively for use within the D&D Beyond Maps environment and are not available for download as image files or VTT assets that can be used with platforms like Roll20, Foundry or Fantasy Grounds.

Final thoughts

Over the past year, we’ve seen an increased focus from Wizards of the Coast on the D&D Beyond Maps VTT (particularly after the colalpse of the much-touted Sigil VTT). Bringing in digital assets from a well regarded designer like Tom Cartos feels like a smart way to both expand what Maps can deliver, while also reaching a much wider audience who might not already be aware of his excellent work.

You can pick up the Tom Cartos: Essentials Stickers Bundle now on D&D Beyond.
