“Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked” VR Game Get Release Trailer

Over the past year we’ve learned that a number of new Dungeons & Dragons video games are in development. One of the key projects announced was an upcoming D&D VR title from Swedish developer Resolution Games; a company best known for its popular virtual reality dungeon crawler Demeo.

Now, we have an official name and a brief first look at what the game will entail. Entitled Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, the game is being developed in collaboration with Wizards of the Coast and is the first virtual reality title to use the Dungeons & Dragons license. It will be available on PC, consoles and Extended Reality (XR) devices, although exact specs along with a release date has yet to be announced.

So what can we expect when Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked hits VR headsets in the near future? Below, we break out all the details.

What is the “Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked” VR game about?

Battlemarked is an upcoming co-operative virtual reality RPG game set in the world of D&D. The game is built using the Demeo Action Role Playing System (ARPS), which involves tactical turn-based combat. Up to four players will be able engage in cross platform co-op gameplay, with each player taking on the role of a specific adventurer based on the standard D&D classes.

In many ways, Battlemarked will simulate a tabletop D&D session, but is described as being a “DM-less system,” focusing instead on social strategy rather than social roleplaying. This means encouraging players to discuss tactics and make key decisions together as they battle monsters and explore dungeons. At launch, Battlemarked will feature two story-based campaigns, with additional campaigns in different D&D settings planned as downloadable content in the future.

Notably, the original Demeo from Resolution (which was released released in 2021 for the Oculus Quest and PlayStation 5) and its 2023 sequel Demeo Battles are both heavily influenced by Dungeons & Dragons, so it makes sense from a branding standpoint that Wizards of the Coast would see the potential for an official crossover.

Have there been other D&D VR Games?

Though Resolution’s upcoming game marks the first official D&D VR game that includes full partnership with Wizards of the Coast, there have been other titles that take a similar approach.

One such game was Dungeon Full Dive which was released on Steam Early Access in October 2023. That particular game provides a complete virtual tabletop where players and Dungeon Masters can access maps, miniatures, and character sheets in real time. Essentially it’s a VR version of Virtual Table Top (VTT) like Roll 20 and Wizards of the Coast’s upcoming DnD virtual tabletop, which is currently in development and built using the Unreal Engine.

What other D&D Video Games Are in the Works?

In addition to Battlemarked, there are also a number of other D&D video game projects in the works, including:

  • Untitled D&D surival sim: In development from Gameloft Montreal, the studio best known for the popular Disney Dreamlight Valley, this new D&D title will be an action-focused survival-life sim set in the Forgotten Realms.
  • Project Baxter: In development from Starbreeze Enterainment, who are best known for their shooter Payday 3, little has been revealed about this upcoming D&D game (code named “Project Baxter”) other than that it is a co-operative multiplayer game and slated for release in 2026 for consoles and PC.
  • Baldur’s Gate 4: Larian Studios has confirmed that they will not be working on a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3. Hasbro, however, is unlikely to let the lucrative franchise die and chances are good we’ll see a Baldur’s Gate 4 in the future from another developer.
  • Untitled Hasbro Game: Wizards of the Coast has also indicated that an in-house studio at Hasbro is currently developing a currently unnamed D&D game, although little information has been revealed about what it will consist of.

Final Thoughts

Combining Dungeons & Dragons with virtual reality seems like a win-win for both longtime TTRPG and video game fans. Whether or not Resolution can actually pull it off, however, remains to be seen. The company has not released any in-game footage or screengrabs, and there’s a lot we still don’t know about what Battlemarked will consist of. Still, there’s plenty to be excited about and the potential to offer a fresh take on D&D video games is huge.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story on the days ahead and will update this page with more information on Demeo x Dungeon & Dragons: Battlemarked as it’s made available. In the meantime, below is the official announcement trailer for the game.

Cameron Nichols is a Senior Editor who lives in Boston, Massachusetts, and has been playing D&D since the early 90s, when he was introduced by his older brother and cut his teeth on AD&D 2nd Edition. Since then he’s played virtually every RPG he could get his nerdy little mitts on (including a weird Goth phase in the early 2000s when he rocked Vampire: The Masquerade pretty hard). His favorite D&D campaign setting is the Forgotten Realms and his favorite character to play was a Half-Orc Barbarian named Grug (who was unfortunately devoured by a gelatinous cube).
