D&D Unleashes Misplaced Monsters Volume 1
Wizards of the Coast unveils a new downloadable book of beasts, with all proceeds going to charity
Dungeons & Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast has recently unveiled a new creature collection for D&D Beyond entitled Misplaced Monsters: Volume 1. The publication was developed in collaboration with the Extra Life charity, with all proceeds going to support the Seattle Children’s Hospital and Autism Center.
The book itself consists of six creatures that were all originally designed by kids, who provided drawings and descriptions for each. The Wizards of the Coast team then developed accompanying stat blocks for D&D 5e, and professional artwork based on the original sketches (both of which are included in the book). The collection is currently retailing for $5.95 on D&D Beyond, or you can get the individual stat blocks for $1.99 each.
What’s included in Misplaced Monsters: Volume 1?
The six hilariously adorable monsters featured in the collection are as follows:
Sheldon the Blueberry Dragon
This epic dragon lives in space, has super speed, can control the wind and, of course, loves parties (hey, who doesn’t?). Spelljammer players eat your hearts out.
Rain
A half cat, half unicorn with a love of cupcakes who shoots rainbows out of its horns that instantly heal anyone in their path. This adorable abomination can also shoot rainbows out of her horn that turns opponents into (wait for it…) glittery flowers.
Seth the Shapeshifting Dragon
While he looks incredibly terrifying, this water-dwelling dragon is entirely vegetarian. That being said, Seth can also shapechange at will, which seems like a pretty bad ass power.
Coral
Another unicorn-like flying creature, Coral has the ability to speak with and heal animals. On the defensive side, when she strikes her tail on the ground she reduces everything around her into dust. When she gets the hiccups she also shoots bubbles out of her horns which are filled with a variety of magical items.
Scrapper
Offering up more of a steam punk vibe, Scrapper lives (not surprisingly) in a scrap yard where he eats junk metal. He also uses his wires to pull his victims towards him where he then punches them repeatedly in the face (which is legitimately awesome).
Dandylion
These peaceful creature lives in the Feywild where they cultivate beautiful gardens of flowers and herbs, many of which have special magical properties. They’re also incredibly intelligent and wise, but can be incredibly dangerous if you get on their bad sides.
Final Thoughts
Notably, this isn’t the first time that Wizards of the Coast has created content to support Extra Life. In the past, they’ve released a number of different publications to complement existing DnD 5e books, including:
With Misplaced Monsters, overly serious D&D players might roll their eyes at this collection. Yet the fact is some of these creatures are legitimately cool and it’s a great way to support a great cause. You can purchase the complete collection or individual monsters on D&D Beyond here.

Cameron Nichols is a Senior Editor who lives in Boston, Massachusetts, and has been playing D&D since the early 90s, when he was introduced by his older brother and cut his teeth on AD&D 2nd Edition. Since then he’s played virtually every RPG he could get his nerdy little mitts on (including a weird Goth phase in the early 2000s when he rocked Vampire: The Masquerade pretty hard). His favorite D&D campaign setting is the Forgotten Realms and his favorite character to play was a Half-Orc Barbarian named Grug (who was unfortunately devoured by a gelatinous cube).
