Back in April 2025, D&D Beyond officially released the Valda’s Spire of Secrets Player Pack, featuring a variety of gonzo character options pulled from the pages of Valda’s Spire of Secrets; a popular third-party supplement released by Mage Hand Press back in 2022 for D&D 5E.
Now, players can tap into even more character options with the follow-up Valda’s Spire of Secrets Player Pack 2, which features even more off-the-wall options and is available now on D&D Beyond. Below, we take a closer look at what’s included in this latest digital release.

What’s in the original “Valda’s Spire of Secrets” sourcebook?
The original Valda’s Spire of Secrets is a 374-page player focused sourcebook for D&D 5E (2014) that was created by third-party publisher Mage Hand Press after a massive Kickstarter back in 2021. The book offers:
- 10 new classes (Alchemist, Captain, Craftsman, Gunslinger, Investigator, Martyr, Necromancer, Warden, Warmage and Witch)
- 150+ new subclasses
- 130 new spells
- 100 weapons (including new firearms)
- 85 new magic items
- 50 new Feats
- 5 new Species (Geppettins, Mandrakes, Mousefolk, Near Humans and Spirithosts)

What’s included in the Valda’s Spire of Secrets: Player Pack 2 on D&D Beyond?
The new Player Pack follow-up is not a reprint of the original book, but rather contains a select amount of material for use on D&D Beyond, all of which has been updated for D&D 5.5E. Specifically, Player Pack 2 contains the following:
New Subclasses
There are 7 new subclasses in total, as follows:
- College of Masks Bard: A theatrical focused bard that allows you to gain magical abilities by donning masks, each of which grants unique powers based on the archetype they represent.
- Dragon Domain Cleric: A heavy armor wearing cleric that allows you to channel the elemental powers of dragons, including the ability to breathe fire or frost in battle.
- Circle of the City Druid: A specialized urban druid that lets you swap standard wilderness Wild Shapes for mechanical constructs and draws power from busy streetscapes.
- Pistolero Gunslinger: A high-dexterity martial combatant who focuses on close-quarters speed and precision firearm tactics, using quick draws and trick shots to maximize damage.
- Beastborne Ranger: A ranger whose physical form manifests primal animalistic mutations, allowing you to alter your body with claws, enhanced senses or natural armor.
- Heroic Bloodline Sorcerer: A spellcaster whose magic stems from the legendary deeds of an ancestral hero, letting you weave standard arcane power with unique martial-focused abilities.
- Magic Missile Mage Wizard: A highly specialized wizard who dedicates their entire arcane study to perfecting the magic missile spell, transforming it into a devastating signature weapon.

New Familiars
There are 7 familiars to choose from, including:
- Flying Book: A playful, animated arcane tome that flutters through the air using its cover as rudimentary wings and genuinely enjoying the sensation of being written in.
- Pet Rock: A tongue-in-cheek comapnion labeled the “perfect familiar” because it requires zero food or water, boasts massive natural defenses and can be hurled as a formidable thrown weapon since it can’t move on its own.
- Winter Wolf Pup: A small, elementally chilled canine companion that can unleash frost-based attacks.
- Yarn Golem: An adorable sidekick literally stitched together out of needle and thread.

New Feats
There are 7 new feats, including:
- Pyromaniac: Enhances your fire-based capabilities by allowing you to wield explosive, high-impact fire damage that can bypass normal resistances or catch multiple targets in the blast.
- Metabolistic Magic: Gives spellcasters high-risk endurance by allowing you to directly convert your Hit Point Dice into extra spell slots during combat.
- Spellblade: Designed specifically for martial spellcasters, this general feat lets you gain an ability score increase, learn powerful new blade cantrips and replace one weapon attack from your regular Attack action with a cantrip casting.
- Magitechnician: This feat allows your character to bridge the gap between magic and mechanics, granting proficiency and specialized expertise with magical technology, devices and tools.

New Spells
There are 21 new spells including:
- Rocks Fall: A highly destructive spell that parodies the infamous Dungeon Master trope “Rocks fall, everyone dies” by letting the caster summon a literal, crushing barrage of boulders over a designated area.
- Blade Cantrips: A group of magic-and-martial hybrid cantrips that let your character imbue a physical weapon attack with varying forms of elemental and tactical arcane damage.
- Flashback: A chronomancy spell that allows you to warp the timeline slightly by undoing an action or rewinding events that just occurred on a previous turn.

New Magic Items
There are 7 new magic items, including:
- Reaper’s Bullet: A legendary piece of firearm ammunition engraved with insidious runes, built with the singular, devastating mechanical purpose of bringing inevitable death to its target.
- Weapon Charms: Wondrous items designed as small ornaments on a string or chain that you use an action to attach to a weapon (usually its pommel).
- Nolzur’s Painted World: A set piece item that draws direct thematic inspiration from the Dark Souls video game.

How Much is “Valda’s Spire of Secrets: Player Pack 2” on D&D Beyond?
Player Pack 2 retails for $14.99 USD on D&D Beyond. Notably, the PDF version of the original Valda’s Spire of Secrets retails for $30 USD and includes all of the material from the original sourcebook (which is substantially more than you get in the D&D Beyond pack, although it is designed for 2014 5E). The hardcover copy retails for $60 USD (not including shipping).
You can, however, also purchase a Valda’s Spire of Secrets Digital Bundle, which includes Player Packs 1 and 2, plus the Gunslinger class. The digital collection retails for $38 USD (which would normally sell for $45 USD if you were to purchase the three products individually).

Final Thoughts
While there is no shortage of official and third-party character options for D&D 5.5E, Valda’s Spire of Secrets is definitely one of the more unique, with an equal mix of bizarre, terrifying and hilarious options to choose from.
