New D&D Subclasses Confirmed for Arcana Unleashed

This coming September, Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a brand-new D&D supplement with a focus on high magic entitled Arcana Unleashed. And while there’s still much we don’t know about the book, we have received some new information courtesy of the Dungeon Masters actual play series.

In a recent article from Variety, it was revealed that the upcoming second season of the show will include four new subclasses from Arcana Unleashed. Specifically, these are the Arcane Archer Fighter, Warrior of the Mystic Arts Monk, Transmuter Wizard and Vestige Warlock, all of which have appeared in recent Unearthed Arcana playtests.

Below, we take a closer look at everything we know about these new magically delicious D&D subclasses.

What are the new subclasses in Arcana Unleashed?

The four confirmed subclasses are listed below (for ease of reference, we’ve indicated whether it’s new class or an update of something we’ve already seen in previous D&D 5E materials):

Originally appearing in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything in 2017, the new Arcane Archer later appeared in the June 2025 Arcane Subclasses playtest and was further refined in the September 2025 Arcana Subclasses Updated. Changes included providing Magical Ammunition that also works out of combat (such as creating vines, darkness, or unlocking doors) and retooled features like Curving Shot and Masterful Shots. At higher levels, you also now regain Arcane Shots more frequently and can unleash forceful bursts when using Indomitable, plus counterattack when foes miss you.

First appearing in the 2014 Player’s Handbook, the Transmuter was also part of the Arcana Subclasses playtest we saw in 2025. The new version of this subclass allows you to create a Transmuter’s Stone that grants resistances, darkvision or saving throw proficiency and can now serve as a spellcasting focus. You also always know Alter Self and Polymorph, each of which also provides unique benefits (such as extra disguise powers, concentration bonuses or retaining mental stats while transformed). Higher-level powers include improved Transmutation spells and a Master Transmuter ability that lets you reshape objects, heal allies, raise the dead or even restore youth.

This brand new subclass is really a spellcasting version of the Monk, blending Sorcerer magic with traditional martial combat in a way that feels closer to a gish than any prior Monk subclass. The subclass uses full spell slots and prepared spells, drawing from the Sorcerer spell list and keying off Wisdom. Its Mystic Focus feature allows spell slots and Focus Points to be converted back and forth, giving a surprising amount of flexibility. Later features like Mystic Fighting Style also let you weave cantrips and low-level spells directly into physical attacks.

The new subclass introduces a companion-focused Warlock whose power is derived from a forgotten, dying god desperate to reclaim its relevance. At the heart of the subclass is the Vestige Companion, a customizable Celestial, Fiend or Undead entity that acts as both a familiar and a combat asset, scaling directly with your Warlock’s level. The subclass also blends summoning support, granting domain-based spell access and powerful aura effects at higher levels. You can also tap into Cleric-like abilities that can shield allies, prevent death and allow you to temporarily assume the form of a powerful summoned creature.
