WizKids Gets Spirited Away With New Dragon Mini

WizKids is heading back to the Forgotten Realms and digging up one of D&D’s newest and most unique dragons. The upcoming Adult Spirit Dragon miniature is part of the long running Icons of the Realms product line and is based on the new monster stat block and artwork featured in the recently released D&D supplement, Forgotten Realms: Adventurers in Faerûn.

The large format mini will be coming out in December 2026, but you can pre-order it now from your local game store, WizKids and Amazon. Below, we take a closer look at these majestic monsters.

What is the new WizKids Adult Spirit Dragon D&D Mini?

The new Adult Spirit Dragon comes on a 75 mm base, making it significantly larger than typical miniature. It’s also fully pre-painted and designed for table use with D&D 5.5E, but would also work great as a display piece.

Notably, an unpainted version of the Adult Spirit Dragon is also available as part of the Nozlur’s Marvelous Miniatures line, which is fully primed right out of the box.

How much is the Adult Spirit Dragon D&D mini?

The box set retails for $79.99 USD (not including shipping and handling). It’s a hefty price tag for a single miniature, but is on part with what we’ve seen with past WizKids releases, like the recent Amethyst Dragon and Black Draoclich.

When is the Adult Spirit Dragon D&D mini coming out?

The mini is currently scheduled for release in December 2026, at which point it should be fully available online and from physical retailers (we’ll update this page with an exact date once it’s been confirmed).

What is a Spirit Dragon in D&D lore?

A Spirit Dragon (also known as a Song Dragon) is a unique draconic entity that is directly linked to a lost civilization. They are formed when a dragon egg is left buried among ancient rubble, at which point it can hatch into a Spirit Dragon wyrmling that becomes intrinsically tied to the ruins it originated from.

Unlike chromatic dragons (which are typically evil) or metallic dragons (which lean toward good), Spirit Dragons generally maintain a neutral disposition. Their only goal is to learn as much as possible about the dead society which created them and they are particularly fascinated by music, art, poetry and culture. While they generally remain aloof, in some cases they will hire adventurers to uncover new knowledge for them.

In terms of their appearance, Spirt Dragons often have unique physical characteristics inspired by the lost civilization they stem from. This can include horns shaped like majestic stag antlers or ancient runic symbols etched into their wings. All Spirit Dragons, however, possess wings and natural elements like stone and foliage are often integrated directly into their scales.

Spirit Dragons tend to dwell almost exclusively in ancient ruins, which they remain extremely protective of. In battle, however, they are incredibly deadly, with the ability to breathe both pure necrotic energy as well as time warping magic that can slow enemies down to a crawl.

Final Thoughts

WizKids has been absolutely killing it lately when it comes to their large format D&D minis, which double as both display-ready collector’s items and something you can actually use at the table. The new Adult Spirit Dragon definitely looks like it fits in that category.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this new mini in the days ahead and will do a review closer to launch in December 2026. In the meantime, you can pre-order them now from your local game store, WizKids and Amazon.
