New D&D Cards for Spells, Monsters & Magic Items Coming Soon

Dungeons & Dragons is a game that often requires a bit of a mental load when it comes to the rules. One way DMs and players have been able to ease the burden is through the use of D&D reference cards. The idea is simple: rather than having to add something to your character sheet or flip through a sourcebook, you use physical cards that have all the info you need and can be easily used at the table.

The concept has become so popular that over the past few years, we’ve seen a number of official and unofficial decks for D&D 5e that offer a simply and easy for way to track spells, monsters and magic items. Now, Wizards of the Coast is dealing out a number of new D&D decks for 2026 that will include spell cards, magic item cards, and monster cards, all redesigned to reflect the updated rules and content from the D&D 5.5e core rules.

What are the new D&D reference cards?

The 2026 D&D Reference Cards will include three main types of decks:

How much are the new D&D reference cards?

The official pricing has not yet been confirmed by Wizards of the Coast. However, previous D&D card decks typically sold for around $20 to $30 USD (although there were larger and smaller formats available). It’s likely the new 2026 D&D card decks will have a similar price range (we’ll update this page with an exact MSRP once it’s been confirmed).

When will the new D&D reference cards be released?

The new D&D Reference Card Decks are currently scheduled for release in August 2026 and will be a part f D&D Seasons; a new marketing initiative that concept that connects new books and community events around a specific theme. In particular, the decks will be part of the “Season of Magic” which runs from July to September 2026 and will include organized play and events related to the new Arcana Unleashed supplement and Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall adventure.

What other D&D reference cards have been released in the past?

D&D reference cards have actually been around since the earliest days of the game, mostly as fan-made accessories. In the D&D fifth edition era, however, we’ve seen a number of official and unofficial decks. Past releases from Wizards of the Coast include:

Three packs of official D&D spell cards: one for Clerics, one for Druids and for Arcana classes.
Two packs of official D&D Monster Cards, one for Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes and the other entitled "Creature & NPC Cards."
A pack of official D&D Magic Item Cards next to a pack of Monster Cards for Challenge Rating 0 to 5.

Final thoughts

While using digital tools like D&D Beyond has become increasingly popular over the past few years, it can still be time consuming to look up rules, so there’s something to be said about having physical cards at the table to speed up play. Whether players end up dealing these out at the table, however, remains to be seen.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the new D&D reference cards in the days ahead and will update this page with new information and images as it’s made available.
