What other D&D coloring books are available?
The past decade has actually seen a surprising number of official D&D coloring books being released (not to mention a number of unofficial titles inspired by D&D and the fantasy genre as a whole). This is due primarily to the relatively recent emergence of adult coloring books as a form of relaxation. Titles include:
- Monsters & Heroes of the Realms Coloring Book (2016)
- Dungeons & Dragons Adult Coloring (2017)
- Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures Outlined (2018)
- Dungeons & Dragons Word Search & Coloring Book (2023)
- The Dungeons & Dragons Coloring Book (2023)

Official Dungeons & Dragons coloring books, however, also date back to the late 1970s and 80s (although these were geared primarily towards kids). The first was The Official Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Coloring Book, which was released in 1979 and illustrated by legendary underground artist Greg Irons. Notably, these books have since become highly sought after by collectors.
In the early 1980s, Marvel Books and TSR also co-produced a series of coloring books that also included sequential stories and featured some impressive original cover art. These too are now extremely collectible, often fetching top dollar on eBay and the secondary market (particularly if they’re in good condition and haven’t been colored in).

Final Thoughts
Dungeons & Dragons coloring books might be one of the more unusual spin offs, but they’re also one that has a long history dating back to earliest editions of the game. And while they’re definitely not for everyone, if painstakingly coloring in the scales of a great wyrm is something you’re interested in, you can pre-order Dragons of the Realms now from your local bookstore, game store or on Amazon.
