Space Marine 2 Developer May Be Working On New D&D Video Game

In a recent investors call, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks revealed that Saber Interactive, the developer behind the 2024 smash hit Space Marine 2, is hard at work on a new triple-A video game which may be based on the Dungeons & Dragons license.

If this is indeed the case, it marks yet another major video game studio taking on the D&D brand, but also showcases just how eager Hasbro is to generate the kind of revenue it made from Baldur’s Gate 3, which reportedly earned the company an estimated $90 million in licensing fees.

So just what might a possible D&D video game from Saber Interactive look like? Below, we break out everything we know so far.

What is the upcoming Hasbro video game about?

During the investors call, Cocks offered very few details on the upcoming game, and wouldn’t confirm if it would be based on Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, Transformers or another Hasbro IP. He did, however, confirm that it will l have both single player and multiplayer modes, and will use Saber Interactive’s “Swarm” technology, which was used most recently in Space Marine 2 to animate and control massive swarms of alien insects known as Tyranids.

During the call, Cocks also confirmed that Hasbro “will use the Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 team to develop the product” and added that the game is part of a larger “co-publishing deal” in which both Hasbro and Saber will be “the publishers of record”.

What other D&D Video Games Are in the Works?

Currently, there are a number of D&D video game projects in various stages of development, including:

  • Untitled D&D surival sim: In development from Gameloft Montreal, the studio best known for the popular Disney Dreamlight Valley, this new D&D title will be an action-focused survival-life sim set in the Forgotten Realms.
  • Project Baxter: In development from Starbreeze Entertainment, who is best known for their shooter Payday 3, little has been revealed about this upcoming D&D game (code named “Project Baxter”) other than that it is a co-operative multiplayer game and slated for release in 2026 for consoles and PC.
  • Baldur’s Gate 4: Larian Studios has confirmed that they will not be working on a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3. Hasbro, however, is unlikely to let the lucrative franchise die and chances are good we’ll see a Baldur’s Gate 4 in the future from another developer.
  • Untitled Hasbro Game: Wizards of the Coast has also indicated that an in-house studio at Hasbro is currently developing a currently unnamed D&D game, although little information has been revealed about what it will consist of.
  • Battlemarked: is an upcoming co-op virtual reality RPG game set in the world of D&D. The game is built using the Demeo Action Role Playing System (ARPS), which involves tactical turn-based combat for up to four players.

Final Thoughts

It’s clear that after the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Hasbro has set its sights on the video game market. In fact, on this most recent investors call, CEO Chris Cocks reiterated that “we should expect 1-2 [videogame] releases per year from 2026 to 2030,” indicating that it has indeed become part of a larger corporate strategy. And while Hasbro does have its own internal games in the works, including the upcoming triple-A science fiction RPG Exodus, licensing out existing Hasbro IPs like Dungeons & Dragons is a low risk, high reward venture for the company.

And while it’s not clear if the Saber Interactive game will indeed be based on D&D, chances are good given the popularity of the brand and the type of games that Saber makes. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story in the days ahead and will update this page with more information as it’s made available.
