What is “Betwixt Two Worlds” about?

Betwixt Two Worlds is an audiobook produced exclusively for Audible that is written by New York Times best selling author R.A. Salvatore and narrated by Victor Bevine (a voice actor who has narrated a number of other audiobook version of Drizzt novels). The audiobook description reads as follows:

When Drizzt Do’Urden first entered Icewind Dale in 1347, he found a place quite unlike anywhere he had ever known, a land of freezing winds and ferocious monsters, of dramatic vistas and unrelenting challenges. Most of all, though, he found a land populated by folk who knew all too well the price of a misstep, whether walking into a yeti den or trusting a stranger.

Making his way in those early days was no easy task, but Drizzt would find focus and joy in watching the antics of a girl and a bunch of dwarfs trying to keep her from getting herself killed. A girl who would become his friend, who would become a woman, who would become his wife.

When Breezy Do’Urden, the daughter of that marriage, enters Icewind Dale more than 150 years later, she finds a land no more tamed. And while her father’s reputation has mostly smoothed the way for her among the ever-suspicious people, she carries her own concerns, confusion, and a trauma realized in the difficult journey through the Spine of the Word Mountains.

Notably, the audiobook is being released as part of the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons

Who is Briennelle Zaharina

Briennelle Zaharina, also known as “Brie” or “Breezy,” is the daughter of drow ranger Drizzt Do’Urden and the human warrior Catti-brie and is named after her grandfathers Bruenor Battlehammer and Zaknafein.

Brie has not featured prominently in any previous Legend of Drizzt novels, but is supposed to star in her own webcomic entitled Brie and the Borrowed Blade, which is supposed to appear on the Webtoon platform and was being written by popular webcomic author Purpah with artwork by Ryan Maniulit. That series – which is aimed at a younger audience – has been delayed for sometime, with no official release date announced.

The new audibook Betwixt Two Worlds is therefore really the first time we get a look at what an adult Breezy Do’Urden is like as a character.

How much is the “Betwixt Two Worlds” audiobook?

The audiobook retails for $24.95 USD on Amazon. Notably, it is discounted if you pre-order it before the release date, and it’s possible that we may see a price drop in the near future (which is often the case with new audiobook releases).

When will “Betwixt Two Worlds” be released?

The audiobook will be available to the public on October 24th, 2024. It’s initially an Amazon exclusive, but it is possible that you may be able to snag it from other audio platforms or your local library in the near future.

Final Thoughts

While technically not a Drizzt book, Betwixt Two Worlds is the first new Forgotten Realms work we’ve had from R.A. Salvatore in several years. Notably, it’s also not the first audiobook exclusive that R.A Salvatore has written, with the title One Eyed Jax being released in 2021. It remains to be seen, however, if this young Do’Urden can live up the legacy of her legendary father.

You can order your copy of the Betwixt Two Worlds audiobook now on Amazon.
