Super7 Unveils New D&D Vecna Action Figure

2024 is officially the year of Dungeons & Dragons, with the world’s most popular tabletop roleplaying game celebrating its 50th anniversary and preparing for the release of the new Core Rule Books.

Yet, this year has also clearly been the year of Venca, with the legendary D&D arch-lich and ultimate BBEG getting his time in the blood-soaked spotlight. In fact, in the last few months alone the famed undead sorcerer has appeared in a new D&D + Dead by Daylight crossover and starred as the titular terror of the new Vecna: Eve of Ruin campaign (and that’s not even counting his continued association with the Stranger Things villain of the same name).

If all that wasn’t enough, everyone’s favorite undead-sorcerer-turned-demigod is now also getting his very own toy, with Super7 unveiling a new Vecna action figure (which is also being released with a new t-shirt tie-in). So how can you get your hand on this bad boy? Keep an eye out as we dig into all the details.

What is the new Vecna Action Figure?

Super7 – the San Francisco-based collectible toy and apparel company – recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they would be showcasing the new Vecna action figure at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. While details are still scarce, we do know that the figure is 7-inches in height and will come with two interchangeable heads (one of which features the Eye of Vecna) along with several accessories, including the famed Book of Vile Darkness, the iconic Hand of Vecna and the dreaded Sword of Kas.

The figure is part of Super7’s new ULTIMATES! line of D&D action figures, which includes characters from the 1980s Dungeons & Dragons animated series and is being released in several waves over the coming months.

How much is the new Vecna action figure?

The new Super7 D&D Vecna action figure will retail for $55 USD, which is comparable to the previous D&D ULTIMATES! figures. Like other Super7 toys, these are meant more as high-end collectibles than something that’s meant to be played with (although most likely Vecna will insist on being taken out of the box to be played with and/or enslave the universe).

When will the new Vecna action figure be available?

Super7 will be revealing an official online order date in a few weeks time. In the meantime, they’ll be hosting a D&D Pop-Up at their San Diego store from July 24th – 28th, 2024, where fans will be able to order in person. Pre-orders should be available on the Super7 website shortly after that.

Who is Vecna?

Vecna is one of the most iconic villains in Dungeons & Dragons, first appearing in the 1976 supplement Eldritch Wizardry as a powerful lich. Over the years, he’s appeared in every edition of the game, primarily as illain in numerous supplement and adventures materials.

In the lore of D&D, Vecna began as a mortal human in the world of Greyhawk, eventually ascending to lichdom through his mastery of necromancy and dark magic. As a lich, Vecna was immensely powerful and sought to conquer the world, amassing a vast empire. However, his ambitions were cut short when he was betrayed by his lieutenant, Kas, who used the Sword of Kas to sever Vecna’s hand and eye, effectively ending his reign.

Despite his physical destruction, Vecna’s spirit endured, and he eventually achieved godhood. As a deity, Vecna is worshipped by those who seek power through forbidden knowledge and dark magic. His followers, known as the Cult of Vecna, are dedicated to furthering his malevolent goals, spreading fear and chaos in his name. More recently, in the new Vecna: Eve of Ruin campaign, the iconic villain sought to remake the multiverse in his image, with the player characters traveling across the planes of existence in an effort to stop him.
