When it comes to dice for Dungeons & Dragons and other TTRPGs, we truly suffer from an embarrassment of riches. That’s because there are currently tens of thousands of unique dice sets created by hundreds of different companies. These range in quality and quantity, with everything from cheap 3D plastic designs to bespoke options crafted from high-end materials.
Runic’s gemstone dice are definitely in the latter category, and represent some of the most beautiful dice forged in the image of the great polyhedral gods. Handcrafted using a variety of glass and stone materials, they’re solid to roll and look absolutely stunning. (In the interest of full disclosure, we have received two sets of review dice from Runic, but have not received any other monetary compensation for this review. It’s also worth noting that we receive a ton of review materials and only cover products we legitimately love and want to promote).
So just why are Runic’s Gemstone dice so damn awesome? Below, we roll out all the details.

What are Runic’s Gemstone Dice?
Runic’s gemstone dice are arguably what the company is best known for (although they also craft other dice using metal and resins). The gemstone versions are constructed out of a variety of materials, including obsidian, opalite, fluorite, amethyst and azurite, to name just a few. These are a far cry from your cheap plastic dice and are something that will likely appeal to that rare venn diagram overlap of hardcore geologists and TTRPG nerds.
We received a set of the Raised Dichronic Glass Dice, which is a unique type of glass that actually displays two or more different colors depending on your viewing angle and the lighting around you. Pictures really don’t do justice to how stunning the effect is, and it’s almost holographic in terms of how the light refracts off of them. At times, it almost looks as though there’s multicolored lights inside the dice. In low lighting the effect isn’t quite as noticeable, but chances are they will definitely impress when you roll them at the table.

We also snagged a set of the Light Blue Cats Eye dice. At first glance, they actually appear like a dark solid blue color, but when you take them out of the box and get them under the light the result is stunning and they change almost instantly to reflect a variety of different hues. It’s an incredible effect that you really have to see in action to fully appreciate.
Notably, both sets came in a high-end carrying case that also looks great and is solidly built. It’s a great way to protect the dice and allow you to transport them to your next game. If you order from Runic at a certain spend threshold, they throw these in for free, which is a nice touch.

How Much Are Runic’s Gemstone Dice?
Runic Dice definitely aren’t cheap. The average set of Gemstone dice will run anywhere from $100 to $170 USD before shipping. That being said, you get what you pay for and these are on another plasne of existence compared to cheap resin and plastic dice. They’re an absolute work of art and something hardcore dice goblins are going to eat up. The price point is also comparable (if not even a little but cheaper) than what you’d find from other high end dice sets, including those which often launch on Kickstarter.
Notably, with each set comes with seven dice in total (a D4, D6, D8, D12, D20 and set of D10 percentile dice), so you’ve got the basics in terms of having a complete table-usable set.
Who is Runic Dice?
Runic Dice is a small veteran-owned business located in Scarborough, Maine. They’ve been around for a few years now and in addition to their various dice sets also offer a number of other TTRPG accessories, including dice trays and dice towers. ll of their products are hand made and locally produced.
They’re also fairly active in the TTRPG scene and have appeared at a number of different cons and events in the US.

Final Thoughts
While you’re not guaranteed to roll any nat 20s with Runic’s gemstone dice, they are likely going to turn some heads at the table. They’re incredibly well designed, beautifully packaged and feel great in hand. If you’re looking for some of the best DnD dice sets on the market, these may just be the math rocks you’re looking for.
