Greyhawk Now Open to Third-Party Creators on DMsGuild

The world of Greyhawk has been a central part of Dungeons & Dragons since the earliest edition of the game, spawning a number of characters, spells, magic items and gods that have since become a key part of D&D lore. In recent years, however, the setting have been largely overlooked by Wizards of the Coast.

That”s about to change, however, with Greyhawk receiving a whole chapter in the new 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide. Unfortunately, it looks like that might be the last we see of official content for some time, as Wizards of the Coast recently stated that they have no plans for future Greyhawk books. The good news, however, is that WotC has recently opened up the world of Greyhawk to third-party creators on the DMsGuild platform.

So just what does this mean for both players and publishers looking to venture into Oerth? Below, we break out all the details.

Who can create Greyhawk DnD content on DMsGuild?

For almost a decade now, the official DMsGuild Content Guidelines stated that users can create and upload content only if it is using the DnD 5e rules and set in the official Wizards of the Coast worlds of the Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, Eberron, Spelljammer, Planescape, Dragonlance, the Radiant Citadel, Ravnica, Theros or Strixhaven.

Now, Greyhawk has been added to the list of official settings. This means that anyone, be it an individual designer or a full third-party publisher, can create adventures or campaign supplements set in the world of Oerth.

What official Greyhawk content is on DMsGuild?

Currently, there are a number of official Greyhawk materials available on DMsGuild, all of which are for older editions of D&D. Some of the most popular include:

Final thoughts

After 50 years, the Greyhawk setting is still going strong, but its return in 2024 is bittersweet. One one hand, it gets top billing in the new Dungeon Master’s Guide. On the other hand, Wizards of the Coast has said they have no further plans to develop the setting. The good news is that DMsGuild is putting the world of Oerth into the hands of fans and third-party publishers. It remains to be seen, however, what they do with it.

You can pick up existing Greyhawk DnD materials or submit your own by visiting DMsGuild.

Cameron Nichols is a Senior Editor who lives in Boston, Massachusetts, and has been playing D&D since the early 90s, when he was introduced by his older brother and cut his teeth on AD&D 2nd Edition. Since then he’s played virtually every RPG he could get his nerdy little mitts on (including a weird Goth phase in the early 2000s when he rocked Vampire: The Masquerade pretty hard). His favorite D&D campaign setting is the Forgotten Realms and his favorite character to play was a Half-Orc Barbarian named Grug (who was unfortunately devoured by a gelatinous cube).
