WizKids is digging deep into the forgotten depths of the toy box to release a series of four new D&D action figures. The set is described as a “lost wave” as it’s based on prototypes that were developed but never released back in the early 1980s by now defunct toy company LJN. Each of the new WizKids action figures is 4 inches tall, posable (with “Battle-Matic” action that makes them move when you press a lever) and includes a variety of accessories and signature weapons. While all four can only be purchased as a complete set, each figure does comes in its own packaging which is designed to replicate the original LJN D&D toy line.
Notably, these new figures were first released back in 2022 by WizKids parent company NECA as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive, but the four-pack is now available to the general public for $99 USD (plus shipping and handling) via WizKids. Below, we take a closer look at this D&D blast from the plastic past.
Valkeer D&D Action Figure
Valkeer is a “good warrior” loosely based on by Norse culture who was created specifically for the unreleased LJN D&D toyline. He’s described by NECA as “a powerful warrior from a culture on the fringes of civilization. He’s left his home to sell his skills and adventure in the civilized world—perhaps to amass a fortune with which to return home, perhaps to become an important figure in this so-called civilization. He’s known for strength, cunning, contempt for the outer world’s decadence and for adhering to his own code of honor.”
Notably, Valkeer also appeared as an NPC in the 1984 D&D Expert module Quest for the Heartstone, but has since not appeared in any other official D&D materials until now.

Skylla D&D Action Figure
Skylla is a D&D character that first appeared in a series of Marvel coloring books produced in the early 1980s. According to her backstory, she was a student of the good wizard Ringlerun (who was also created for the original LJN AD&D toyline) but eventually turned to evil joining a group known as the “League of Malevolence” that included the characters of Kelek, Warduke, Zarak and Zargash. She later appeared as an NPC in the 1983 module The Shady Dragon Inn (which was produced as a tie-in to the LJN toys) and again in the Quest for the Heartstone module.
More recently, Skylla has appeared in the 2021 D&D 5e campaign The Wild Beyond the Witchlight as her alter ego Charmay and was also given her own tie-in miniature. She’s also appeared as a playable character in the D&D Idle Champions mobile game.

Kelek D&D Action Figure
Kelek is an evil sorcerer who was created for the 1980s LJN AD&D toyline. He is described as a former ally of the wizard Ringlerun who can tap into dark and powerful magic. Like Skylla, he also appeared in the original 1980s Marvel coloring books, as well as the The Shady Dragon Inn and Quest for the Heartstone D&D game modules.
Kelek latered appeared in episode four of the 1980s D&D cartoon entitled “Valley of the Unicorn” as a servant to the powerful wizard Venger. More recently, in 2018 artist Richard Whitters released a sketch of Kelek on Twitter/X, with D&D designer Jeremy Crawford noting that he’d designed an NPC in one of his campaign based on the character.

Pulvereye D&D Action Figure
Pulvereye is described as an evil “Orc High Chief,” despite the fact that he looks like a cyclops. According to his character description from NECA he is “the fierce leader of all the orcs. He revels in warfare, and always seeks new territory for his race. Pulvereye orders his people to raze and destroy elvish homelands whenever possible. Magic cast by eleves can’t hurt him. He has one central eye that never blinks. He uses powerful enchanted weapons whenever he enters battle.”
Notably, Pulvereye was created exclusively for the unreleased LJN “lost” Batte Masters line and has not appeared in any official D&D products until now.

Final Thoughts
With this new set, NECA and WiKids have dug into a forgotten corner of both toy and D&D history. And while we’ve seen other similar retro D&D action figures, including Super 7’s D&D animated series figures and a highly detailed Warduke from NECA, it seems there’s still plenty of D&D nostalgia left to play with.
You can pick up the D&D Lost Wave Action Figure four-pack now from WizKids.
