Giants of the Star Forge Adventure Now Available for Free

Tie-in adventure to Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giant is free to D&D Beyond Subscribers

These days finding a solid high-level D&D 5e adventure can be a bit of a challenge, with both Wizards of the Coast and third-party publishers focusing mostly on adventures geared towards lower to mid-tier character levels.

That’s why it’s a pleasant surprise to see Giants of the Star Forge, a new official D&D one shot designed for high-level characters. The adventure is a tie-in to the new supplement Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants, and is available for free to subscribers on D&D Beyond.

So just what can players and Dungeon Masters expect to find in this high-level outing? Below we break out all the details.

What’s Giants of the Star Forge About?

Giants of the Star Forge is a D&D high level one shot designed for 16th-level characters and can be completed in about 3 to 4 hours of play.

The adventure begins when a noble emissary asks the characters to rescue the region’s greatest smith. The emissary explains that a fire giant named Brimskarda kidnapped the smith and took him to the Star Forge, a giant furnace built in the crater of a fallen star. It’s up to the players to reach the Star Forge, rescue the captured smith and uncover the truth behind Brimskarda’s plans.

The adventure combines role playing, exploration and a bit of dungeon crawling, while also allowing players to use some high-level abilities and take on monsters with a higher Challenge Rating.

Do You Need Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants to Run the Adventure?

No. You don’t need Glory of the Giants to run the adventure, although it does tie in to the both thematically and in terms of some of the materials featured in the book.

One interesting design note is that if you do have Glory of the Giants, the team provides notes on how they used the book’s materials to generate the adventure, with references to the various chapters, tables and stat blocks. It’s also worth noting that the Star Forge is one of the 18 unique locations (known as “enclaves”) featured within Glory of the Giants.

Final Thoughts

It’s great to see Wizards of the Coast releasing a high-level adventure like this. And while we haven’t run the adventure yet ourselves, the premise and materials looks promising.

In the meantime you can read our review of Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants and check out the video below from the D&D design team, which offers a little bit more insight into what to expect with Giants of the Star Forge.
