After years of build up and millions of dollars in development, Wizards of the Coast recently pulled the plug on their much publicized Sigil VTT, laying off 90% of the team in the process. Sigil – which at one point was touted as a major video game style platform that would generate recurring revenue – is now more or less on life support and going forward will exist solely as a bonus feature to D&D Beyond subscribers.
Despite Sigil essentially being sunset, however, Wizards of the Coast recently unveiled a series of new digital minis, which are available for free on D&D Beyond. It’s extremely odd timing given the layoffs and shift in direction for Sigil, but points to what we may see in the near future as far as the platform is concerned. Below, we take a closer look at all the details.

What are the new free Sigil digital minis?
There are actually three new digital D&D minis that are available. To use them, however, you will need to have Sigil installed on your computer and be a D&D subscriber of any tier. the sets are as follows:
- Unclaimed Treasure Pack: Contains two digital miniatures. The first is a Mimic disguised as a standard treasure and the second is the monster in its fully revealed form.
- Dwarven Digital Couture Pack: The set includes a dwarf mini along with custom made armor.
- Animal Pack: The set includes five minis, an Axe Beak, Crocodile, Griffon and two versions of a Panther. Oddly all five are unpainted.

Final Thoughts
Notably, these aren’t the only miniatures that were showcased for Sigil. In fact, players who pre-ordered the 2024 Player’s Handbook were supposed to receive a custom Ancient Gold Dragon digital miniature (although these have yet to be released). It’s also not yet clear if we’ll see other miniatures also coming out for Sigil in the near future, despite the platform essentially being scrapped. In all likelihood, however, there are assets that have already been created for Sigil which we’ll be seeing in the months ahead.
In the meantime, you can download the three sets of minis now on D&D Beyond.
