New D&D Novel “The Finest Edge of Twilight” To Feature Drizzt’s Daughter

It’s been over 35 years since fantasy author R.A Salvatore first introduced the legendary dark elf ranger Drizzt Do’Urden. Since then, the drow warrior has appeared in over 40 novels, including most recently in the Way of the Drow Trilogy, which concluded in 2023 with the novel Lolth’s Warrior.

Now, the legend of Drizzt continues with a new Dungeons & Dragons novel entitled The Finest Edge of Twilight, which is slated for release in the Fall of 2025. The book, however, will focus on the character of Briennelle “Breezy” Zaharina, the daughter of Drizzt and Catti-brie, who most recently appeared in the 2024 audiobook Betwixt Two Worlds.

So what’s in store in this latest entry in R.A Salvatore’s Dark Elf saga? Below, we take a closer look at everything we know so far.

What is “The Finest Edge of Twilight” about?

The official synopsis from Penguin Random House reads as follows:

Breezy Do’Urden is more than just the heir of legendary heroes. For the past decade, she has dedicated herself to the study of combat, magic, and more recently, to the elusive Way of Shadow, honing her body and mind into a keen and singular weapon. But even after years of effort, her parents, Drizzt and Cattie-brie, struggle to see Breezy as more than just their little girl. Determined to prove them wrong, Breezy takes on the most intense challenge she can: to fight her way to becoming a Master of Dragons at the renowned Monastery of the Yellow Rose.

Meanwhile, in the shadows of Westbridge, Dahlia Sin’felle plots her rise to power. Once a broken soul, Dahlia has few friends and fewer options to make her way through the world. But Dahlia believes she has discovered a new path to restored glory: the transformative charm and cunning of a vampire. With every step toward immortality, she consolidates her influence, building an empire from the darkness, even as she contends with her own monstrous instincts—and her complicated past with Breezy’s family.

As Breezy fights her way through the shadows, and Dahlia follows her dark ambitions, both seek to find their place in a world that can be both brutal and beautiful. No matter the challenges, their divergent paths are forged by the same choice: their fates will be theirs and theirs alone.

Who is Briennelle Zaharina

Briennelle Zaharina, also known as “Brie” or “Breezy,” is the daughter of the legendary drow ranger Drizzt Do’Urden and the human warrior Catti-brie. She is named after her grandfathers, the dwarf warrior Bruenor Battlehammer and the dark elf swordmaster Zaknafein.

Notably Breezy has not appeared in any previous Legend of Drizzt novels. A teenaged version of the character was supposed to star in her own webcomic, entitled Brie and the Borrowed Blade, which was slated to appear on the Webtoon platform and was being written by popular webcomic author Purpah with artwork by Ryan Maniulit. The series – which is aimed at a younger audience – has been delayed since 2022, with no official release date announced.

In 2024, Breezy appeared for the first time in the Audible Exclusive audiobook Betwixt Two Worlds, which was also written by R.A. Salvatore. The Finest Edge of Twilight, however, will be the first official novel to feature her.

How much is “The Finest Edge of Twilight”?

The hardcover version of the book will retail for $30.00 USD. Notably, it is discounted if you pre-order it before the release date, and it’s possible that we may see a price drop in the near future (which is often the case with new releases).

When will “The Finest Edge of Twilight” be released?

The book will be released on October 7th, 2025. At that time you’ll be able to pick it up from Amazon, your local bookstore and other retailers. It’s not clear if an audio version of the book will also be released at that time. We can also expect a trade paperback version to be released six months or more after the hardcover hits shelves.

Final Thoughts

With over 40 Drizzt novels to date, it’s great to see R.A. Salvatore treading some new ground with a new character. The synopsis sounds intriguing and has a ton of potential. We’ll have to see, however, if Breezy lives up to the Do’Urden name.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this book in the days ahead and will update this page with more information and a complete review, once it’s available.
