New D&D Dungeon Master’s Workbook of Worldbuilding (First Look)

A new Dungeons & Dragons book is coming out this spring from Penguin Random House that serve as an interactive companion piece to the 2024 DMG. Entitled the Dungeon Master’s Workbook of Worldbuilding, the book is designed for both new and experienced DMs and includes a series of prompts and brainstorming exercises designed to help create more realistic and fully developed campaigns and worlds. The book will be coming in the spring of 2026 and is also a companion piece to another similar product entitled the Player’s Workbook of Epic Adventure. It’s available for pre-order now from your local game store, book store and on Amazon.

What is the “Dungeon Master’s Workbook of Worldbuilding” about?

The Dungeon Master’s Workbook of Worldbuilding is a 176-page companion book to the 2024 DMG that’s designed to help both new and experienced DMs build out detailed adventures, campaigns and worlds. The book includes a series of brainstorming exercises and writing prompts that include:

  • Creating a new D&D campaign setting
  • Learning how to improvise and roleplaying
  • Crafting unique rewards and magic items for players
  • Weaving adventure hooks (with twenty-five examples scenario)
  • Developing maps for use at the table and on VTTs

Who is the author of the “Dungeonmaster’s Workbook of Worldbuilding”?

The book is written by Andrew Wheeler who is a Toronto-based writer and editor (originally from southern England) who has contributed significantly to a number of Dungeons & Dragons books, including co-writing the Young Adventurer’s Guides and authoring the D&D cocktail recipe book Puncheons & Flagons.

He is a Shuster- and Eisner-award winning creator known for works such as Another Castle, Love and War, and the anthology Shout Out.

How much is the “Dungeon Master’s Workbook of Worldbuildling”?

The new book will retail for $24.99 USD (not including shipping and handling). It’s not clear if an eBook version will also be released, but it’s likely.

When will the “Dungeon Master’s Workbook of Worldbuilding” be released?

The book will be officially available on May 5th, 2026, at which point you can pick it up online and at physical retailers.

Final Thoughts

Being a Dungeon Master is incredibly fun, but it can also be challenging, especially for new players. The Dungeon Master’s Workbook of Worldbuilding may just help make the process a little asier.
