Dragons of Eternity: New Dragonlance Book Now Available for Pre-order

The past few years have been a bit of a rollercoaster for Dragonlance fans. In late 2022, a new DnD campaign book entitled Shadow of the Dragon Queen officially brought Dragonlance into the fifth edition of the game. More recently, however, fans of the world of Krynn were disappointed to learn that after several years of script development, actor and producer Joe Manganiello’s Dragonlance TV series was officially killed off.

Fortunately, 2024 is looking up again as the third and final book in the new “Dragonlance Destinies” series has been unveiled. Written by original Dragonlance creators Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the new novel is entitled Dragons of Eternity and slated for release in August 2024, although you can pre-order it now from Amazon.

So what can fans expect in this final instalment? Below, we break out all the details.

What is Dragons of Eternity about?

As the third and final instalment in the Dragonlance Destinies trilogy, Dragons of Eternity follows the adventures of Destina Rosethorn and her companions as they seek to restore the timeline of Krynn that was shattered in the previous two books.

The official description from distributor Penguin Random House reads as follows:

When Destina Rosethorn and her companions were transported to a time centuries before their birth—to the days of the Third Dragon War—the Graygem of Gargath that Destina carries brought chaos to the battlefield and changed the course of history. Upon returning to the Inn of the Last Home where their journey began, Destina and her friends discover a world completely changed. The forces of evil hold sway over the land.

The river of Time is rising, flowing inexorably towards present day. Destina and her friends have to make one last, desperate attempt to restore Time’s river to its proper channel. If they do not succeed, the altered past will sweep over the present until no trace of their old world remains.

It’s worth noting that this the Dragonlance Destinies trilogy is the first series set in the popular DnD setting to be published in over a decade, and is one of over 200 Dragonlance books published to date.

When is Dragonlance: Dragons of Eternity coming out?

Dragons of Eternity will be available in hardcover on August 6th, 2024, and will retail for $30 USD. The paperback version of the book will likely be released in late 2025.

Notably, an eBook format and audio book version will also be available shortly after publication. It’s not yet clear, however, if any future Dragonlance novels will also be appearing (although we do know that a new Forgotten Realms book entitled The Fallbacks is in the works along witha new Spelljammer novel entitled Memory’s Wake.)

Final Thoughts

It’s great to see the new Dragonlance series wrapping up and that Wizards of the Coast continues to support the literary side of Krynn. Fingers crossed we’ll see more novels from Weis and Hickman in the near future.

We’ll be providing a complete review once Dragons of Eternity is available, but the meantime you can pre-order it now from Amazon.
