What is “Dungeons & Dragons: A New Quest” about?

Dungeons & Dragons: A New Quest is a new story-driven expansion for Minecraft that was released in February 20th, 2025 and is essentially a sequel to the Dungeons & Dragons DLC that was made available back in 2023. The game follows the adventures of two returning protagonists, Katra and Vaer, as they set out on a perilous quest to reunite Vaer’s stolen soul with his body. Along the way, they encounter legendary locations from the Forgotten Realms, including Candlekeep, the Sword Coast, and Icewind Dale, while battling deadly monsters such as mind flayers, bugbears and gelatinous cubes.

The core of the experience revolves around character progression, allowing players to choose from four different classes: Barbarian, Rogue, Wizard, and Paladin. Each class brings unique abilities and gameplay styles. Additionally, A New Quest introduces the Deck of Many Things, a powerful artifact that was also front and center in Wizards of the Coast’s 2024 supplement The Book of Many Things.

How Can You Play Dungeons & Dragons: A New Quest?

D&D: A New Quest is currently available for download on the Minecraft Marketplace. To play, you’ll need to have a copy of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition installed and ensure the game is updated to the latest version. It currently costs around 1510 Minecoins (the store’s in-game currency) and if you don’t already have any, you can purchase a 1600 pack Minecoins for about $9.99 USD.

Notably, if you pick up the game before March 20th, 2025, you can also snag a free Dragon Mask character item.

What Was the Previous D&D Minecraft Game?

This isn’t the first time Dungeons & Dragons has made its way into the world of Minecraft. In 2023, Microsoft released the Dungeons & Dragons DLC, which introduced a turn-based RPG system, classic D&D character classes, and an extensive campaign set within the Forgotten Realms. While A New Quest is a follow-up in spirit, you don’t have to have completed the previous DLC.

It’s also worth noting that unlike its predecessor, which focused on a more traditional, turn-based experience inspired by the D&D tabletop rules, A New Quest leans into action-oriented gameplay with an emphasis on exploration and real-time combat.

Final Thoughts

While A New Quest isn’t in the same wheel house as other recent Dungeon & Dragons video games like Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s clearly aimed at a younger target audience. In this sense, it’s a fantastic way to introduce new players to the world of D&D. It’s also a far cry from the open world mechanics of Minecraft itself, leaning heavily into a narrative and bringing in some of the most popular D&D lore. You can pick up your copy now on the Minecraft Marketplace.

In the meantime, below is a video from the official Minecraft YouTube channel which offers more details on what to expect.
