New Official DnD Cocktails Recipe Book Coming Soon

Food and drink are a key part of Dungeons & Dragons, both inside and outside of the game. Which is why it isn’t surprising that a number of popular DnD cookbooks have been released over the years, with real world recipes inspired by the game.

Now Wizards of the Coast and publisher Ten Speed Press are joining forces to release a new DnD cocktails recipe book entitled Puncheons & Flagons, which will be hitting shelves in August 2024 and is available for pre-order now.

So is this upcoming collection of elixirs worth cracking open? Below we break down everything we know so far.

What’s include in the Puncheons & Flagons DnD Cocktails book?

Puncheons & Flagons is book that includes 75 Dungeons & Dragons-themed cocktails and bar snacks that you can create using real-world ingredients. All of the recipes are created by professional recipe makers and each entry is based on a popular in-game drinking establishment (think some of DnD’s most famous taverns and watering holes). Most of the ingredients are easy to come by and, in many cases, probably already in your cupboard or liquor cabinet. (As a brief side note, if you’re not sure what exactly a “puncheon” is, you’re not alone. Turns out they’re a type of wooden keg).

The recipes found in the book include:

  • Adventurous cocktails such as “The Necromancer” and “Hand of Vecna
  • Batch cocktails such as “Candlekeep Tea” and “Faerie Fire”
  • Nonalcoholic concoctions such as “Mourning Cup” and “Baldurian Tonic”
  • Snack dishes such as “Luiric Rarebit” and “High Sun Florentines”

Notably the book is written by award-winning author Andrew Wheeler, whose credits include the comic book series Another Castle, along with the D&D Young Adventurer’s Guides.

When is Puncheons & Flagons coming out?

Currently, the official release date for the collection of DnD cocktails is August 27th, 2024, just in time for Dungeons & Dragons 50th anniversary (although it’s not clear if Wizards of the Coast has any plans to integrate it into any of their larger celebrations and releases).

Nottably, at launch Puncheons & Flagons will be available from all online retailers as well as brick and mortar stores (although you may want to check with local shops in your area to see if they’re getting copies in).

How much is Puncheons & Flagons?

The new DnD Cocktails recipe book hardcover will retail for $29.99 USD, which is comparable to other non-fiction and non-game related DnD books we’ve seen in the past, such as Lore & Legends and the popular DnD cookbook Heroes Feast.

There is also a Kindle version available for $14.99 USD.
