Concealment is a huge part of a Dungeons & Dragons. Whether it’s a rogue rolling a stealth check to remain hidden from foes or a Dungeon Master secretly leafing through their notes behind a screen.
Concealment is also the name of the game when it comes to a new upcoming DnD 5e accessory recently announced by Wizards of the Coast and Penguin Random House. Entitled The Book of Concealment, it’s a combination of campaign journal and DM screen that will be coming out in the summer of 2024 and is available now for pre-order on Amazon.
So just what can we expect to find hidden inside its pages? Below we break out all the details.
What is the Book of Concealment?
The Book of Concealment is an upcoming official Dungeons & Dragons accessory that features a journal for tracking DnD 5e campaigns and a hardcover case that doubles as a four-panel Dungeon Master’s screen. The screen includes foil stamping and removable stickers on the front and back. Notably the journal itself features a textured cover and inside uses high-quality gridded paper, making it ideal as a DM notebook with room for mapping, sketching and jotting down game notes on the fly.
The front cover is designed by US-based artist Joshua M. Smith, better known as Hydro74, an illustrator who has worked on numerous other Wizards of the Coast and DnD 5e products, including creating alternate covers for a number of sourcebooks.
When will the Book of Concealment be available?
The book is coming out August 13th, 2024, but is currently available for pre-order. Notably, it will be available both online and through traditional retailers, including book stores and local game and hobby shops who carry DnD and Wizards of the Coast products.
It’s worth noting that although the book is being produced in part by Penguin Random House, it will not be distributed by the company since they stopped working with WotC as of January 1st, 2024.
How much is the Book of Concealment?
The Book of Concealment will retail with an MSRP of $24.00 USD. The price, however, may vary if you’re purchasing it online or through local retailers, who tend to have mark ups on their products.
Final Thoughts
It’s interesting that Wizards of the Coast has decided to release a product like this, especially considering just how many other DM screens and journals are available on the market. Still, the artwork looks cool and it’s an intriguing concept to combine both a notebook and screen, not to mention including solid new artwork from Hyrdo74.
If you’re interested in getting your hands on the Book of Concealment you can pre-order it now on Amazon.
