D&D Beyond has officially released its October 2026 Drop. Entitled Shadowfell Secrets, as the name suggests the content ventures deep into the dark and desolate realm known as the Shadowfell, with a range of new options for both players and Dungeon Masters. This includes new Feats, monster stat blocks, maps and the new Sorrow Knight Fighter (the first subclass to appear in a Drop).

Active Hero and Master tier subscribers can claim the October Drop now on D&D Beyond. Below, we peer into the gloom to break down everything in this month’s release.

What are D&D Beyond Drops?

D&D Beyond Drops is a subscription perk program first introduced in May 2026, giving Hero and Master tier subscribers free evergreen content. Drops land on the first Thursday of each month with new content like spells, feats, and backgrounds for players, plus maps, monsters, magic items and adventures for DMs.

Unlike D&D Beyond’s typical limited-time bonus content, Drops are meant to be permanent: you keep everything released to date and everything that comes after, for as long as you remain subscribed. Wizards of the Coast has said the format was a direct response to subscriber requests and is meant to be community-driven, with regular surveys shaping future content. Drops can also be shared among D&D Beyond users in the same way that digital books can.

What’s New for Players in the October 2026 Drop?

Headlining the player options is the Sorrow Knight Fighter, marking the very first subclass to join the D&D Beyond Drops catalog. Sorrow Knights channel their past despair into combat, utilizing unique Despairing Strike Dice to deliver emotionally charged attacks filled with the power of the Shadowfell. At higher levels, they gain abilities to sense emotional states and attune directly to the plane.

Players also gain access to several new narrative-driven Feats:

  • Shadow Pact: Forms a mystical connection with an entity from the Shadowfell.
  • Shadow Trapper: Inflicts the plane’s pervasive melancholy on trapped targets.
  • Shadow Weaver: Grants the ability to create, control and manipulate shadows.

Additionally, October introduces a brand-new player use for the Tarokka Deck. Known as the Life Path spread, this tool utilizes the new Tarokka deck featured in Ravenloft: The Horrors Within to build out a random character backstory.

Rounding out the player options, subscribers receive four new Shadowfell-themed character sheet backdrops alongside the delayed magic-themed backdrops which were originally supposed to be included in the September 2026 Drop.

What’s New for DMs in the October 2026 Drop?

Dungeon Masters get a batch of new tools inspired by the Shadowfell, starting with three new monster stat blocks:

  • Gore Drinker (CR 16): Hulking amalgamations of giant corpses and body parts originating from Shadowfell coliseums.
  • Mirror Haunt (CR 9): Evil fey entities that travel through mirrors to steal valuables or kidnap victims.
  • Sarcopike (CR ½) & Swarm of Sarcopikes (CR 3): Fish-like scavengers lurking in Shadowfell waters (whose school is affectionately dubbed a “sarcopile” due to an early drafting typo).

Artist and cartographer Jason A. Engle has also contributed four new battle maps for the Maps VTT:

  • Cavern Corridors Around a Ritual Pit
  • Burial Chamber and Magic Circles
  • Forest Clearing at Night
  • Keep Ruins in the Shadowfell

The update also continues the ongoing backlog refresh, converting five older drop-in encounters (Urban Vampire Cadre, Corrupted Grove, Demonic Cult Summoning, Ooze There, and Slippery Slope) into Storied Encounters integrated with the Scene Prep tool. These are designed to provide a mini narrative, monsters and NPCs to go along with the map.

Final thoughts

D&D Beyond Drops continue to offer a surprising amount of deep content for both players and DMs, and the inclusion of a new subclass in particular, marks a major milestone for the program.
