New Baldur’s Gate 3 Books Coming from Penguin Random House

Publisher Penguin Random House just announced a series of four new books based on the Baldur’s Gate 3 video game franchise and the larger Dungeons & Dragons universe. The titles (which will be released by four different publishing imprints over the remainder of 2026), include a new novel starring the vampire spawn Astarion, a notebook inspired by an iconic BG3 magic item, a coloring book and a cook book.

The titles will also be the first wave of a new line up of Baldur’s Gate 3 fiction and non-fiction titles, with additional books planned for 2027. The announcement shows just how popular the BG3 video game remains, despite the fact that it’s now almost three years old. Below, we take a closer look at these new literary take on a D&D classic.

What new Baldur’s Gate 3 books are coming out?

The four BG3 books coming in 2026 from Penguin Random House are as follows:

Baldur’s Gate 3: Astarion is a novel written by New York Times bestselling fantasy author T. Kingfisher (a pen name for author Ursula Vernon). A prequel to the events of Baldur’s Gate 3, the book will follow Astarion during his time in servitude to the vampire lord Cazador Szarr. Notably, Stephen Rooney, one of the senior writers of Baldur’s Gate 3, was consulted on the story and the audiobook will be narrated by actor Neil Newbon (who voiced Astarion in the game).

The book will be released September 29th, 2026, but you can pre-order it now on Amazon.

Baldur’s Gate 3: The Necromancy of Thay is a blank, grid-paper notebook that is meant to be an accurate reproduction of the Necromancy of Thay; an important story-driven quest item found in the game. The notebook will feature an embossed skull on the cover, foil stamping and illustrated “clasps” on the sides.

It will be released on July 21, 2026, but you can order it now on Amazon.

The Official Baldur’s Gate 3 Coloring Book features 40 black-and-white line drawings of characters, creatures and locations from the game. Notably, all of the illustrations are by artist Jaki King (creator of the webcomic Ladykillers).

The coloring book will be released on August 11th, 2026, but you can pre-order it now on Amazon

A Feast for a Tenday: The Official Baldur’s Gate Cookbook features 65 recipes organized by course and camp location. The book will also have original chapter-opener illustrations and 45 photographs of the various dishes. It’s also written by longtime Wizards of the Coast contributor Andrew Wheeler, who helped pen the D&D Young Adventurer’s Series and the D&D Puncheon’s and Flagons cocktail recipe book.

The cookbook will be released on November 3rd, 2026, but you can pre-order it now on Amazon

Final thoughts

It’s amazing that several years after it first arrived, Baldur’s Gate 3 remains as a popular as ever. In fact, we’ve recently see news surrounding a potential Baldur’s Gate TV series along with a BG4 sequel also officially announced by Wizards of the Coast. Whether these new titles live up to fan expectations, however, remains to be seen.

We’ll be doing a complete review of these books as they’re released, so stay tuned for more information.
