Back in November 2025, legendary RPG designer, author and Forgotten Realms creator Ed Greenwood announced that he was working on a new series of D&D 5E sourcebooks set in the Dalelands; the iconic area n in northeastern Faerûn which has appeared in numerous D&D novels and supplements over the years. The books will be published on DMsGuild under a new third-party creative imprint called RealmsBound, which is being spearheaded by indie publisher Mythmakers Studio with a team of professional TTRPG artists, writers and designers.
We now have more details about the first supplement in the series. Entitled Ed Greenwood Presents: Forgotten Realms: Guide to the Dalelands, the sourcebook is meant to expand on previously published official and unofficial materials about the Dalelands, offering a deeper dive into the popular region. Below, we take a closer look at what to expect in this new take on a classic Forgotten Realms locale.

What is “Forgotten Realms: Guide to the Dalelands” about?
In a recent blog post on the official RealmsBound website, they describe the book as a comprehensive expansion for D&D 5.5E.. As the name suggests the book is designed to offer a detailed overview of the Dalelands, ranging from the mystical glades of Cormanthor to the pastoral fields of Mistledale.
The guide is built for both players and Dungeon Masters, offering info on key locations, factions and NPCs. It also includes new monsters, magic items and random encounter tables. To help groups jump into the action, the book also includes three adventures designed for Levels 1-4 to PCs.
The post also notes that the book is being developed under the guidance of Ed Greenwood, with primary writing and design duties overseen by other team members.

How much is “Forgotten Realms: Guide to the Dalelands”?
As of this writing, a price has not yet been confirmed. It’s also not clear if it will be available in both print on demand and PDF via DMsGuild, which will have separate price points.
When will “Forgotten Realms: Guide to the Dalelands” be released?
According to RealmsBound the book will be released sometime in June 2026. Notably, the book was slated for launch earlier this year, but has since been pushed back.

What other Dalelands books are being released by RealmsBound?
As mentioned previously, Guide to the Dalelands will be just one of four planned supplements coming out in 2026. The other three titles are as follows:
- Inn Sites of the Dalelands: Focused on social encounters, as well as the inns and NPCs of the Dalelands. It also includes a range of mini-games, as well as details on local holidays, festivals and regional tournaments.
- Delves of the Dalelands: Focuses on the legendary dangers of the Dalelands, covering ruins, dungeons and potential adventure sites.
- Adventures in the Dalelands: An anthology featuring Dalelands adventures for Levels 1 to 12, with guidance for expanding into higher-level play.

What other D&D supplements are there about the Dalelands?
Over the past 40 years the Dalelands have been documented in dozens of official D&D supplements, including most recently in the Adventures in Faerûn expansion which was released by Wizards of the Coast in November 2025. Other past supplements of note include:
- FRS1: The Dalelands (1993): Considered by many fns to be most comprehensive guide for the region, covering history, maps and iconic locations.
- The Ruins of Myth Drannor (1993): The definitive guide to the elven ruins which remain one of the most important sites in the Dalelands.
- Volo’s Guide to the Dalelands (1996): An in-universe travelogue providing flavor, specific tavern descriptions and local rumors.
- Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (2001): Includes a massive section updating the Dalelands timeline to 1372 DR.

Final Thoughts
While the Dalelands have been well documented before, this new book still feels like it has the potential to blaze new ground, thanks to the oversight of Ed Greenwood and the possibility of bringing the region into the modern Forgotten Realms timeline of 1501 DR.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this project in the days ahead and will do a complete deep dive closer to launch. In the meantime, you can learn more on RealmsBound.
