Dead By Daylight Introduces New D&D Chaos Shuffle

In May of 2024, the popular horror action video game Dead by Daylight launched a downloadable Dungeons & Dragons expansion that introduced the villainous Lich Vecna and a brand new Bard class, along with other in-game elements inspired by the popular TTRPGs. Now, developer Behaviour Interactive has announced a further expansion of the D&D collaboration in the form of a new Chaos Shuffle variant, which runs for a limited time and introduces new game options.

So just what exactly is included in this latest Chaos Shuffle and how does D&D fit into it? Below, we hack apart all the details.

What is Dead by Daylight?

Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer action survival horror game developed by Canadian studio Behavior Interactive. In the game, one player takes on the role of a killer while the other players take on the role of survivors, who must survive a certain time period and complete specific objectives that will allow them to escape. The game is heavily themed around the horror genre, with both original characters and those licensed from various film and TV franchises, such as Scream, Aliens and Stranger Things.

Originally released for the PC in 2016, the game has since been ported over to next-gen consoles, including the PS5 and Xbox One. Notably, the game has been played by over 60 million people and remains popular despite being almost a decade old.

What is Dead by Daylight’s Chaos Shuffle?

Chaos Shuffle in Dead by Daylight is a special in-game event that modifies character’s special abilities (known as “Perks”). During the event (which typically lasts for a few weeks and is known as a “Modifier”), your character’s four Perks are assigned at random, leading to unusual load outs and combinations and adding an unpredictability to gameplay. Notably, both Survivors and Killers (the game’s two core classes) are able to access the event.

During a Chaos Shuffle event, the game also provides a number of rewards, including free cosmetic items and extra Bloodpoints (Dead by Daylight’s in-game currency, which allows you to purchase extra Perks, cosmetics and in-game collectibles). It also includes a D&D-themed Event Tome (a series of challenges that earn players extra bloodpoints, cosmetics and in-game lore).

What is the D&D Chaos Shuffle?

The D&D Chaos Shuffle event runs from January 16th to January 28th, 2025. During that time period, players can earn a maximum of 525,000 bloodpoints if you log in every day. In addition, the event features several Dungeons & Dragons-themed digital items, including a player Badge, a Banner and Charm, each of which is themed around dragons.

As part of the D&D Chaos Shuffle event, Behaviour Interactive has also added a new Dungeons & Dragons Collection to the Dead by Daylight store. This includes new Survivor outfits which are based on the Rogue, Warlock, Artificer and Mage classes, plus a new Decaying King skin for Vecna.

Final Thoughts

It’s great to see that the Dead By Daylight D&D collaboration is still continuing to supported and it’s undoubtedly a smart move for both brands. It also comes hot on the heels of a resurgence of interest in D&D video games, thanks largely to the smash hit Baldur’s Gate 3.

Cameron Nichols is a Senior Editor who lives in Boston, Massachusetts, and has been playing D&D since the early 90s, when he was introduced by his older brother and cut his teeth on AD&D 2nd Edition. Since then he’s played virtually every RPG he could get his nerdy little mitts on (including a weird Goth phase in the early 2000s when he rocked Vampire: The Masquerade pretty hard). His favorite D&D campaign setting is the Forgotten Realms and his favorite character to play was a Half-Orc Barbarian named Grug (who was unfortunately devoured by a gelatinous cube).
